View Full Version : Modeling a LCD monitor in Maya
jcjames 04-07-2005, 07:08 AM I am looking for either a tutorial or maybe some advice on modeling a LCD monitor in Maya. I found the perfect tutorial but is done in 3dsmax. I dont know if i can use the same tutorial an apply it to maya. Need help. check out the link below to get an idea of what i want to achieve. thanks

Yeah, you can use the Max tutorial as reference. Having used Max for years now, and Maya for only a little while I can tell you this: It's much easier in Maya.
You can start form the same place, using the scale tool to get the basic shape of your monitor. From there it gets really easy, you only really have to use one tool for the monitor part... extrude face.
You can find extrude face in your polygons Shelf. From there just extrude out, scale up/down faces to your hearts desire. When all is said and done you will have the basic shape of the monitor you want in about 5 min - 15 min in 3DS Max...
Use the same technique for the base and combine the the two objects, merge vertices/edges and you should be set. Hope that helped :D.
