View Full Version : ZBrush user wannabe.
capirossi 04-07-2005, 03:12 AM Hi all.
I have heard zBrush so much.I hope to save up abit and buy it.Before that i have few freshies question.
How does zbrush integrate with maya?
Lets say I have a simple human mesh that i would like to add detail such as winkle and vains.Anyway to do that in Zbrush?
Is the output of it detail mesh with heavy polygon or just displacement map? How do i apply the map in maya to render out later.
Do i have to adjust the UV mapping in maya or ZBrush will handle most of the stuff. Also I hope to hear abit of the zbrush and maya pipeline.I do not have money for Gnomon DVD.
Hope to get some help.thanks

While I'm not a Maya user the pipeline between Zbrush and most render applications are the same. You can -definatly- create wrinkles and veins on your model in zbrush (and quite easily I might add) along with textures. When you have your detailed mesh in Zbrush you can have Zbrush create a displacement map of the high details and export it to be used as a disp. map in Maya on the low polygon version of the model. Zbrush has uv mapping capabilites but you should always create your own uv maps so you have more control over it...zbrush's is good but sometimes you'll notices seams in the map in your render. It's a very revolutionary and time saving tool that I can say I can't live without right now...well I could but it wouldn't be as fun I guess. ;)

The seams in the render , is it a big problem or just bug in maya.Have you solve it?
So, you are suggesting to UV map in maya before export the model to zbrush?
I love details model.I think i will give zbrush a shot.
Thank you.

Probably two of the most well known ZBrush Maya Artists are Meats Meier, and Weta Digital. Check them out if you want to see what they can do together. I'm an XSIer, and even I can appreciate that power.
