View Full Version : Master and Servant 2D Entry: Phil Fensterer
fensterer 04-06-2005, 09:57 PM Phil Fensterer has entered the Master and Servant 2D.
Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=7276)
Latest Update: Final Image: Gullible Travels
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/7276/7276_1115838377_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/8/7276/7276_1115838377_large.jpg)
Well, here is the final image. I know there is not a lot of difference since the last one, I just added some shadows here and there. Every time I started to make a more significant change, I would end up liking the previous version instead. So I took that as a hint and decide to post this with just the shadows added and call it good.
I tried to be more original on this theme and I hope it worked. Good luck to everyone!

Here is my first milestone. As you can see my scetching skills are limited but all my works start out like a crappy drawing. I just like to draw a basic generalization of what the image may look like.
My image is about media as the master and is in control of society and how society has control over individualism. Individualism being the servant in this case.

Though I entered the 2d contest I still need a 3D element. Right now I am creating textures for this object. It is the media walls that will be encompassing the servant! I should have a textured version real soon!

Here is a very rough colored version. I will be adding more detail and color later. Creating an image like this is a new challenge for me so any suggestions, tips or critiques are appreciated. I'm a newbie to this site and still trying to find my way around but so far this seems to be one of the best collection of artists I've seen so I am happy to be here. I would also like to say good luck to all those participating in this contest and that I look forward to viewing everyone's finished works!

Hey fensterer. I noticed when you replied on my challenge page you didn't have a link to your Master Servant page. I was confused of how to do this, and if you are too I hope this will help.
User CP>Edit Signature> Click on the earth picture with the infinity sign.
This is where you type something like: Master Servant
Then copy the thread address of your page in, like (this is mine): http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=222901
Good luck.

thanks for your congratulations.
I also like your (very K Dick or Orwell) picture. A really nice nightmare. So original when you see the others concurrents.
Just one thing, in my opinion, i think the characters seems so static.
Good luck

This is looking really good!
It jumps out at you, my only crit so far, perhaps add a tiny bit more detail to the little people surrounding the main character, other than that i think its perfect!
The censored block over his eyes is a really nice touch by the way!

my two cents worth - overall youre work is pretty detailed. somehow just getting weaker vibes from the small people. i just presumed theyre humans (not 100% sure). personally id rather they be clearly defined - may be human, humanoid or robots? - not too sure.
tnx for passing by. pretty good di. cheeers maaaaan :applause:

Every time I started to make a more significant change, I would end up liking the previous version instead. So I took that as a hint and decide to post this with just the shadows added and call it good. I used Lightwave, Photoshop and Illustrator with a mixture of manipulated photos from my library as well as photos I took myself like the central figure.
The idea is that media is the master of society and society is the master of individualism. The main figure is stripped of any identity and is force fed a world of pop culture.
This was my first challenge and I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next challenge! I tried to be more original on this theme and I hope it worked. Good luck to everyone!

I went to the FTP submission page but it says I need to upload a final image but it also says I have all my wip criteria posted. So now I am confussed on why there is no link or instruction on the submission page to upload my zip file.

Spacenail-Thanks man!
I have a question for anyone who can offer an answer. While viewing the entries, I noticed eveybody has a very long list of wip's and I only have four. I wouldv'e lved to have put more steps in wip's but I didn't think I could. Does anyone know why this is?
This is my first contest entry so I'm still trying to figure out how to do things right on this site.
I appreciate any feedback and again good luck to everyone!

Well it depends on how you're working:wise:
Some artists are hesitating and need advices all along the creation process, others like you seem to know what they want from the early beginning. Sometime, you need to post close-ups because you want to share the fun you have drawing and painting.
If you have details or graphical thoughts to share then you can post in the thread
Hoping this helps a little
Cheers
