Give more clues ! Please ! Is it a dog or a wolf ?

P.Delapouite : its a wolf. any suggestions on how to do the mane? its kinda hard to model....

Hmmmm.... jail run being chased by rabid wolves perhaps?:D
Nice design. I like the guy's proportions. There are many ways to do the mane for the wolf, I guess it depends on what you want the mane to look like!

I like the wolf and that stylized character. I think you should pull a tiny bit more on his wrists and maybe on his calves. Then heīs perfect.
I would suggest you to model the mane, the characters youīve done looks very stylized. So I would think a modeled mane with large strands of hair would fit him perfectly.

As Mikael says.............You have a sttylized look to your wolf, not a common real wold look totally. So,I believe this is a perfect chance for you to go with a very fancy mane of hair from Shag hair or fur or any of the other plugins, what a chance for you to play with one of those plugins. I think the modeled hair is just going to throw off the whole look........
I think an exxagerated mane of hair would be quite interesting, something a little more on the fantasy side...........Good luck............:)

thanks a lot for the c&c's!!
erilaz :
Hmmmm.... jail run being chased by rabid wolves perhaps?
well, not quite, but close... they are prisoners, yeah, and it's gonna involve a lot of wolves!
Mikael P.:
yeah thanks for pointing that out. i'm going for a really stylized look, that guy's proportions and level of detail i adapted from this animator named Shane Glines. i really love his work on Batman Beyond
Vitruoso:
thanks, hmmm. mikhael P says model the mane, you say use shag; i'll try both and see which works
here is a small progress:

Much better. Still think his wrists need a bit more meat.
:) Aint it great when people give you such different suggestions.
levin
10-04-2002, 04:49 PM
i still don't understand what you're trying to say about the wrists; actually, i thought they were too thick. can you please explain what it is that i am overlooking? i have "FUZZY EYES" when i look at my work...
here's the wrists and my understanding of what you're trying to tell me... as you can see it's quite different from the batman reference that i'm trying to achieve

:) hmm. got to hate english sometimes. So little differences. Well, it wasnīt actually the wrist I was after but rather the base of the hand. Hope the picture will make it clearer:

stil working on the wolves and the third element

Looking real nice, some jump between the former and this picture :). Have you tried toning down the colour shifts on his skin. I like it, but it might be just slightly to much.

You're style reminds me of the Mark of Kri for PS2. I love it! Keep us updated man. This is going to be a cool entry.

10-10-2002, 11:33 PM
looming deadline.
Lucid1313: thanks a lot. i thought Mikael P. was my only viewer.
have never played that game though.
Mikael P.: jump? yeah, isp problems, never got to update on the way...the grime? i want him to look grimy like a gladiator/slave. actually i think the dirt is too little. anyway thats just a quick procedural so it'l be easy to tweak; gonna work on a more definite texture if time allows, as of now i like it as it is-- my sister says she is reminded of dirty old barbie dolls.
the wolf. i want them to be scruffy. gonna stick with shag.
gonna stick with this, unless you have some things to point out.
i don't wanna get caught up in the shagfest; i still have an arena and another character to model and detail.
levin

forgot the clip. hehe

Sorry i havent replied sooner, but i just saw your stuff, and it looks real good. I like the batman style of it. And that pic of the guy falling down looks cool! I dont know what the sport is yet though.:D

That tounge needs some attention. Otherwise great fur. I really like that wolf.
:) I see what you mean about dirt. Looking forward to a more finalized texture.

Mikael P.:
the tongue: i assume its the shader? can you give me some good ideas on tongue material? i'll try to work on it. and the fangs too
thanks for your continuous suggestions, it's really big help!
anyway i'm halting the rigging of the wolf. somehow, the look just doesn't satisfy me. maybe he's not too stylized? i need some proportion crits badly.
here is it w/o the fur (which tweaking is taking too much of my time)
here i tried to stylize the proportions a bit. scaled down the rear limbs. i need heroic, menacing, speedy, athletic quality. the fur would give it the scruffy look.
i just come to this blank wall again and don't know why i don't like my work. tell me what you think is wrong.
MikaelPersson
10-11-2002, 10:23 AM
Yes, I think itīs the shader or rather colour. Try a redder one. That isnīt that shiny. Try making it look wet, not so much blinn/phong.
I havenīt got the time to do a detail crit of the wolf. But I will mention the two things that struck me when analyzing. Problem number one is probably his nose. It looks to weak right now. If you want to make him menacing you should make it more powerful.
Then I think itīs the ribcage. You should really give a bigger hint of it. Right now itīs not that obvious.
Becuase if you were to make a skinny wolf, that is the thing that would stay even though all the fat has run of him.
Good luck.

wow, this fur looks great! O.o How did you make it!?
Great Style on the man character, it's really cool :D

I like the fur version, very cool! some color variations there could make it even better, maybe some white lines or some tints of grey..
and I think you should skip the tongue completely.
and the 2 teeth in his upper jaw looks a little to long. can he close his mouth with those teeth?
keep it up :wip:
take care

i prefer the fur-version too....
it resembles the wolf in NEVERENDING STORY part 1...
why not painting a tongue texture???
this would look better than any procedural shader..
use blinn, and paint an extra specular map to prevent this blinn/phong look

10-14-2002, 07:44 AM
Mikael P. : thanks for your crits. yes you're right . i'll try to improve it.
vancorso: ShagFur. thanks!
fellah: ugh. yeah you're right about the teeth. you know i'm really having trouble with that tounge. i want to mimic the long drooling tounge. agh...anyway i just might consider ditching the idea
puuf: nice to see you here!
hmmph. i hated that NEVERENDINGSTORY dog.
its not a fur and non fur version guys;it's definetly gonna be a fur version in the end, i just wanted to get some opinions on the proportions....
i'm workin on the arena right now. lets see if i can finish it before the deadline. 5 days to go? wish me luck.

Maybe need to hand paint some textures, break it up a bit. Even the dogs coat, looks too regular.

Porportions look very good.I like the overall style and look. The look does have that stylised look, somewhere inbetween the real World and toon World, very nice place to be in my opinion.
Lots of good suggestions for you Levin,so I'll let you go and get to them and your stadium...............Overall a nice idea and plan for the overall scene is another thing I would like to add,the all important idea factor is always overlooked, but you have passed with flying colors..................I am happy you went with Shag..................The tongue I think should stay, but just with some texture work, and it will be a nice extra touch............Keep up the good work Levin................

ok
thanks vitruoso you're right about planning and stuff... actually i'm trying to block things out before i get detailed. that way i can avoid being drowned in detailing and loose track of time. detailing comes after everything is set.
heres the arena tell me what you think is it cack or what:
levin

here's the angle i have in mind.
the characters are just placeholders, stil fixin them. this reveals more of the nature of my sport. please comment on the angle composition n stuff... hah... 3 days to go
MikaelPersson
10-17-2002, 10:05 AM
Cool. Looks very promising.
I would try an even lower camera with a slightly wider angle. Put it on the ground and tilt it upwards so you can see even more of that pillar.
Maybe change the position of your right wolf slightly, so that you look along his whole side.
Looking forward to the final result.

Looks to be on the right track Levin............As you say with more detailing now and even possibly after the challenge you will have it just right.
I like the overall presentation. The idea or concept is well thought out as well. You do have a real "EXTREME SPORT" here, not just a sport of some kind..........extreme it is. Overall interesting to look at. Just get to detailing the whole package when possible,it will be well worth it.I like your ambition as well......So get to :wip:
Only thing else I can say is go for as wide as an angle as you can get, plus low angles looking up to show the height off............All in all I am looking forward to the progress of your creation............

i hate it when i don't get to finish a challenge. this is the second one. damn.
i'll try to finish it on my own. but it's hard to find motivation when there is no deadline. and critiques.
anyway, the game is like this: the gladiators fall from a a hundred feet with chains on their ankles and try to save a precious cat on the ground while vicious rabid wolves are released. the one who gets the cat wins. the loser's chain gets cut at the top and get to deal with scoresof hungry wolves. if he slays every wolf, they are granted freedom, so there are two ways to win. saving the cat just saves your life, but you're still a slave. if the cat gets devoured, their chains are both cut and additional wolves are released. the setting is some old northern Roman province so the arena is quite small. i wanted this to be the origin of bungee jumping. hehe.
probly if i were as fast as vitruoso i coulda finished this in time.
so much for my homerun.
thanks to y'all for the support!
