There possible at least two different readings (and you free to add your own).
One of them - story about passion, which rules above wiseness and age.
Another is idea about death, who own a life of any man, with all his knowledge of matter of life-and-death problems in the world.

Thanks for correction, it's happens because of downsampling, which kills reflex on this finger. I'll correct that in final image.
