View Full Version : Speed up the menu delay time
pukvete 04-05-2005, 03:59 PM Is there a hack you can do or some setting so you can speed up the time it takes to show a menu item in a submenu?
Like hacking the registry in windows to speed up the start menu but for maya

go to your registry editor....
run regedit
and do a search for menuShowDelay and change it to 0 it is at 400 milleseconds by default.
yep or get tweakXP from microsoft's site

is that just a windows menu thing or is it part of maya?

I don't think this will work for maya, since menu speed heavily depends on what's currently selected and has nothing to do with OS settings. For example: if you selected only a simple sphere it'd be definitely faster to call up the attribute editor or channelbox, as if you selected an object with lots of attributes to load.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but i doubt this registry 'hack' will bring any objective improvements!

i doubt that, but since i usually clean my geometry very regularly of history i probably can't speak much for that.
if maya is the only program uses the cpu, then it shouldn't matter what type of scene is open or what geometry is selected, it only matters when the scene is being redrawn, ie tumbling the scene.
anyway just try it, it won't affect your machine in anyway and if its a bonus, more speed to ya, if not no harm.
