This is the main evolution of my concept. Figure labeled number one shows the initial concept.A man is standing brave on the surface of time (represented by a watch).A strong light source casts the the shadows of his past (a baby) and his future (and an old man). The concept seemed not so dramatic so, after doodling around with perspective (figure 2 and 3) and position of the hands of clock (three would mean third age, and 9 would mean nine months of birth), I decided to change the composition. I would keep the circle and the man, like a 'vitruvian' clock (figure 4 and 5) but eventually thought that an hourglass would better represent the flow of time (figure 6). So I landed on my final concept. The man is chained tho the hourglass (time). the chain on the right wrist has a symbol carved in it, the greek letter 'alpha' meaning the beginning, the man keeps the chain strongly in his hand and sustains part of the strain. the arm is tense. The left chain, 'omega' is broken meaning the end of life as we know it. the final pose is something you can see in figure 8. I imagine a dramatic lighting, maybe from above. Dark toned like in Caravaggio's paintings. Other elements that will end in the final composition are a carved pillar on the right depicting maybe angels and demons or a soul...giving a clue on what could life after death be...

Ouch: It seems the main entry auto-updates itself...so...here it is what I wrote as entering the challenge:

I'm so late and have so much to do, but I hope it's not too late to enter the challenge.
I usually am the incomplete type of person, the one beginning things and not reaching an end. So I hope this will be my shot at doing something good and complete it.

Here is my 'very' rough concept:

What is it that man faces every day ? The one thing he cannot escape in his life ? I bet a not so trivial and obvious answer would be: "Time". Time binds us at our birth like a chain. We are bound to it as it flows. Sometimes we feel it's pace, slowly, sometimes the rythm is fast.We struggle a daily battle but, eventually, our flesh will surrender to time and lose the war.

I'll try to convey the picture I have in my mind and fill the image with symbols and Icons.
I'm actually not interested in what will be next, after our death but maybe I'l put some hints in the picture. I want this to be dramatic, to express a sense of tension, but also peace and resignation to destiny. Is it time the master and man his servant? Or is it time at our disposal ? Certainly it depends on us.

I've been so busy these days that I could not make any progress with my master and servant entry. It seems, after all I will not finish it in time. I'll also be part of a local art exibition so I've just been busy with traditional painting...Anyway, Today, while I was surfing the Internet, I just got some other inspiration. I also saw that my idea concept idea was just not original as I thought, so I thrashed some of my drawings (which I did not upload) and decided to modify the theme a little bit. So... here is the new concept sketch...more details in the following posts...

NOOB: thanks for stopping by...I actually thought about that (I really love girls too :) ) but the reaper really is a skeleton, so I bet you would not see big differencies... I mean, not the anatomical differeces one would expect/like to see  ... do skeletons have breasts ?? LOL

If I have time I'll try to switch to a female anatomy and see the results...

So, here it is...the last for today and a 'formal' one...it really is not a 'line art milestone' but I will not do lineart so I'll keep updating this until I begin coloring.

Rough idea:
The Reaper is coming out from the shadows..he holds a newborn in his hands.
The reaper is the servant of life, for his mission is to walk beside man and enbrace him once again in shadows when the time will come.

Hi mate, nice concept but its almost exactly like the Back-sleeve of Megadeth's "Youthanasia" album. Check it out, its a ten year old concept, just letting you know, you might want to alter it slightly. Good luck anyway bro.

thanks all for stopping by, I've been very busy with my three day art exibition (I'll post some photos soon) and when I got back I just discovered my processor was melted (ouch!) :( so with the deadline near and a lot to study for my exams I don't think i'll have time to complete this...

ms@zx: there si a coloring wip i have, but it's really doodling with colours and adding some back elements. I just was thinking of letting death walk out from a cemetery. I also liked to include a weeping willow... but that would require a repaint to adjust perspective... and really have no time.

demonicoz: unfortunately I do not have that cd, can u please post a capture of that image ?
