Hi everyone,

We need your feedback on who you want featured on this Q&A Forum!

When suggesting artists, please post any relevant information about them, such as their website, and why you think they should be featured here!

Thanks!

Leonard

I would love to see Mark Behm featured.

As far as I know he's working for Blue Sky right now...or at least he was a couple of years ago.

Anyways, I love this guy's stuff. He's a great concept artist and an excellent animator as well.

Glen Southern
http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/

Always been a fan of his zbrush work, lightwave work, silo work, now a huge fan of his sclupy models..should I say more? How about he's an inspiration and a leader on many forums, including this one, always there to help, what can I say, just love this artist  :applause:

Martin Krol, Wiro, Martin Krol, Robert Chang, Martin Krol, Enayla, Martin Krol.

Oh yeah... Ambient Whisper would be a good one too.

*edit* forgot details:

I think Martin should be featured here because his modeling talent surpasses most of anything I've seen. The man has knowledge of just about every 3D app there is. He posts all over this place and adds his pearls of wisdom and on the same note you can see that as advanced as he is... he's still learning... he's just like the majority of the people here that ar trying to increase their knowledge.

His Site (http://ambient-whisper.cgcommunity.com/)

I like Wiro for much of the same reasons.

Lunatique and Enayla (whom I see you already have on the schedule) are very much the same for more traditional styles of art. They really try to help out where and whenever possible and it's really fun to watch them as they learn stuff here on CGTalk as well like Lunatique's Topology studies or Linda's dabbling in animation (kickin it southpark style) in the Sketch of the day forum.

sorry for being all fan boy... but these people represent (to me) the best of what the CGTalk community is about. Sharing the knowledge and having a good time doing it.

Frank Miller
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0588340/bio

Miller has a powerful style and an incredible way of showing a lot of character and intensity from silhouette and shadow. It would be interesting to grill him on how he goes about fleshing out his panels.

Hi,

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Given the sheer number of people that CGTalk members want to interrogate, we've decided to make the Meet the Artist sessions weekly instead of fortnightly.

Here is the most recent schedule (up to date as of 8 April - subject to change, please check the Schedule thread for any changes).

Meet the Artists Schedule
5 April: Scott Robertson
11 April: Linda Bergkvist (www.furiae.com (http://www.furiae.com/))
18 April: Meats Meier (www.3dartspace.com (http://www.3dartspace.com/))
25 April: Feng Zhu (www.fengzhudesign.com (http://www.fengzhudesign.com/))

Best,

Totally, Please interview an animator!!
It's nice to interview concept design guys but It only represent a tiny portion of the industry!!
There is actually alot more animators in this industry then anything else.

My favorite pick would be Cameron Miyasaki, but any skilled and experienced animators from Pixar or such would be very interesting

I really can't see Burton wanting to do a Q&A at a CG forum. Maybe a filmmaking forum. Robert Rodriguez seems more likely.

But, seriously, if Leo can get a world famous film director to do a Q&A at cgtalk, I'd be VERY impressed.

I still think a sequential storyboard artist would be nice to talk to.

Iain McCaig or even a comic book artist like Jim Lee or Travis Charest

I second Glen Keane, Ray Harryhausen and all the other animators that have been mentioned. Carlos Baena and Bobby Beck have already done a Q&A at CGCHAR (http://cgchar.toonstruck.com/forum/index.php?act=SF&f=11), so it would maybe be cool to hear from someone else, but of course having them do a Q&A again here would be awesome too.

Timmy? Tim? Tim Burton? Where? Voote! Go for it Roberto! ;)
Someone mentioned Robert Rodriguez. Hell I´d be more than satisfied to talk with him, too. :)
Oh yeah and Mr. goldbrush would be awesome. I forgot to mention him last time. Many many peolpe did anyway.
All right, here´s my wishlist:

Jon Foster : www.jonfoster.com (http://www.jonfoster.com/)

Craig Mullins : www.goodbrush.com (http://www.goodbrush.com)

Tim Burton or Robert Rodriguez or David Fincher or Quentin Tarantino or the Wachowskys (I´d ask them why they fu**ed up 2 and 3).

Some anime-guy would be great, too. A professional traditional animator. Doesn´t really matter who as I don´t know any names.

There is no excuse! Mr. Mullins, I´m soo sorry!!! Why the hell did I think it was gold? I have never been to www.goldbrush.com (http://www.goldbrush.com/) till you told me what an ass I am. But we all must admit, that Craig Mullins is using goldbrushes... at least he pays with gold for them.:scream: Anyway... thank you guys for warning me before he saw it himself ;)

EDIT: If there´s gonna be an interview with Craig, I´m definately gonna ask him first why the hell his site isn´t called goldbrush but the site of some f***ing cleaning company...

Leonard,

We've had five sessions so far and no animators yet, maybe you would be so kind to consider getting an animator to be featured for the next session perhaps?

I can think of many talented animators but just to name a few,

Cameron Miyasaki, Animator, Pixar, http://www.cameronmiyasaki.com (http://www.cameronmiyasaki.com/)
Ron Zorman, Animator, Pixar, http://www.ronzorman.com/
Victor Navone, Animator, Pixar, http://www.navone.org (http://www.navone.org/)
Angie Jones, Supervising Animator, Digital Domain, http://www.spicycricket.com (http://www.spicycricket.com/)

thanks!

I think if we keep asking, someday Leonard would accidentaly read this thread and decide to feature an animator...until that day, waiting we are with our noses glued to the screen. :)

Yours true-lee,

Leonard

i have two that would be awsome candidates.

Marco Spitoni:
www.cee-gee.net (http://www.cee-gee.net)

his animatin is outstanding and hes done todays 'industry standard' animations yesterday.

check out "join the empire" wich was done the same year toy story was.

Jeff Lew:
www.jefflew.com (http://www.jefflew.com)

this mans animation is superb. first his killer bean series, then his work on the berly brawl, wicked.

he also has an animation dvd wich i happen to have a copy of, and this is money. not only is it informative, its entertaining. check out the dvd's trailer to see why.

anyways thats my two cents

Jeremy Birn of Pixar who actually uses cgtalk quite often.

I visited his site for almost three years before he was hired at Pixar. He's extremely bright and holds no punches (I saw once where he smacked down Stahlbarg's human shading technique in a thread here).

Kevin Hudson is a great guy and would most likely do it.

I also like Bill Fleming though he doesnt get the respect he deserves.

This may sound like its coming from way out in the left field, but I would like to see a Human Resources staffing agent for a game or movie industry production firm. I know there are many guides out there to writing resumes and cover letters, but for those of us that do yet have industry jobs there are details we are always curious about.

I have always wanted to ask one of these people about selection and descrimination criteria for their particular firm and why certain methods work for them. Other points of interests that people might find in interviewing such a person are specifics regarding salary negotiations, our benefits are negotiated if not set as a policy, what they feel about applicants who do/do not prefer relocation versus a local applicant, and so. While there are many guides out there to give us a start in the right direction I have always wanted to know what somebody in this position really thinks and operates.

Just a suggestion.

i was just thinking of why we always have to do Q&A with 3d artists????theire answers are somehow mostly the same.....why not put it in some other directions and perspectives???well,,one of the most problems cg artists (including me) have,is Story telling. and how to put and organize ideas into one sigle good story to make a good short animation/picture.
i sudgest having a Q&A withy an animation story writter or script writter too....sure it will be usefull for all...
or even some other artists who doesnt have to be CG artists at all

Maybe Rob Coleman?
He surely has something to tell us.

But, you can also invite Dave Cardwell (WETA), he is a greate character modeller.

Put me down for a Paul Thuriot.

Or how about the unsung CG heros like Dr. Ed Catmull or Jim Blinn? Not that I would have a clue what to ask them. In fact, I'de probably just be a fanboy.... OMG jOO rulez!

But ya, Paul Thuriot.

I say that we should do more 2d artists on here. Comic artists, storyboarders, 2d animators. people like that. Capcom 2d artists. Hyung Tae kim. Ian McCaig. Ikeno. Akiman. Joe Madureira. Marvel artists.Indy comic creators. Maybe poeple on this forum.

Id like to see a top notch game level designer be featured. The studios that make the best levels in my opinion are:
-Ubisoft Montreal (Prince of Persia)
-Remedy Entertainment (Max Paine)
-People Can Fly (Painkiller)
-Epic Games (Unreal Tournament series)

maybe the entire art department of a studio can be featured instead of one person

Honestly, I would like to see a female animator, or rigger, or in some other part of the CG pipeline. There's tons of chicks in traditional art, and illustration, but you hardly ever hear about the ones in animation. It'd be nice to see that there's diversity in this guy dominated field, not to mention some competition.

The few women Animators and Riggers I know still don't care to be refered to as chicks...

Tons of chicks I know refer to other chicks as chicks so I guess its ok unless they specifically express their dislike towards the term :)

well in Australia anyway

Hey it's all good! I'm a chick too, and I prefer "chick" to "lady", or "girl", or "female". Those are all kinda lame. I mean, guys have "guy" and "dude" and in general people just think automatically that everyone is male who posts about CG stuff anyway. I don't think any of us chicks would like to be called "broads" or "dolls" but I think the chick thing is oki doki in general.
