Hello,I know your feeling man:D a little comment, now your sketch look like parent be a master morethan child, mayb your must make a child look more scary!!
Goodluck!!
Monstar
04-07-2005, 01:26 AM
I agree Manjang, I don't draw very well anymore, I sculpt for a living and find it easier to get out an idea in clay than on paper, the 3D thing is also new so I will keep my fingers crossed!
Thanks. PATTON

i love the concept, its a great idea. Though i like the sketch , i agrre with manjang that it dosnt really portray the idea. though i accept that its just a sketch, im hoping you will refine it a little more, so we can get a better idea of the final composition. hope to see more soon, best of luck mate!

This is a start on the Dog or 'Hound of Heck" It was modeled in Lightwave and it will be detailed and painted in Zbrush.

Awesome dog. Cannot wait to see the final.:bounce:
Only thing I would change is the way parents and dog are positioned.
Maybe you can have them working hard around their child to make him happy.
Good luck!

04-07-2005, 08:53 AM
hey i love the dog! were there any updates on the concept sketch? are you working off the one you already posted? its just that you have a wonderfull idea there and you should really maximise it by nailing the concept to exactly what you want. you might feel later that the dog needs to be in another position or standing on his hind legs or something, and that would involve alot of remodelling. looking forward to seeing this one progress.
wow, i really love that dog model.. beatiful model with an nice feeling on it..
good luck...
Cool dog , love the style ,reminds me the dog of a friend :)

I love the idea and the dog. Have you got an alternate composition of the characters? I agree with the others, the way it looks at the moment it's not clear who is the master.

I like this houndmodell very much. Proportions are perfect and the cartoony style is very convincing.
Overall one of the most interesting concepts on this challenge.

lovely style! ...I like this dog
I can't wait to see more ..

Hi Monstar, great concept and an awesome start to the modelling with the hound of heck:thumbsup:
If you can capture the emotion (since you have such great reference material) in this image it will really be very powerful...
Good luck!

Thanks Everyone for the kind comments (didn't know so many were watching!)
To answer the question about the ability to change the pose of the dog. He will remain lo-poly
Untill I nail down all the characters in the scene and the composition, and he only took about 2hrs. so a complete redo is not out of the question!
I will try to post some more drawings but as I said in my last post, I sculpt , my drawings SUCK!
Most of the crap I do comes directly from my head , no sketch, but a sketch is what the contest asked for.
Again, thanks for the kind words. PATTON

Hey all, here is a start on the model of Dad, he looks a bit odd to me and may look stupid when he gets hair, I think I may go with a more cartoon like face, don't know yet.

04-08-2005, 05:45 AM
Patton, I disagree...I think the model is coming along nicely. Judging from your sketches you seem to be going toward the zombified, wiped out parent look and I think your father model is portraying that beautifully! I say keep up the good work.
Cheers!

Hi Monstar! I actually think the model looks quite good. Nice detail and expression. If you want cartoony, you could go with simplified shaders and colors...Anyway, I think it looks pretty slick and will definitely be following this one. Nice work!
This is great work, I love the way you emphasise your characters, the dogs posture made me chuckle and the head is fab. Really excelent start. :applause:

Hey again Monstar, you've got a really good handle on characterisation mate!
He looks really hammered in his facial expression, his nose could move a little bit further down his face and maybe his eyes could be more sunken, a coupla wrinkles around them maybe...
Outstanding visualisation so far... Keep it coming man:thumbsup:

I love this idea, and the detail you are putting in the model is wonderful. If the child is the master, it doesnt necessarilly have to be scarry, maybe crying or throwing a tantrum and the parents feel they have to oblige the childs every need. Just a thought. But its looking awsome so far.
Marcus_B
04-08-2005, 08:14 PM
another cool idea may be to put a slight halo over the child's head ...some satire on his innocence

More kind words! Thanks!
DaddyMack: I agree about the Nose, good call!!
Mr Waka : OK, I swear this is the Truth, I was with George Romero today!!!...Stop Laughing! Im working on his new Movie " Land of the Dead" not as a 3D artist , but as a make-up effects artist ( thats what I do!) I did not even think about the Zombie connection!
Nexuspreez: The baby will most likley have a calm knowing expression, maybe a raised eyebrow, Babies know they have that kind of control!
Marcus_B : A halo.... Hmmmm... That's just crazy enough to work!! Is it stealing if I give you credit??
Thanks for the kind comments it really means a lot to me, I have only been doing 3D for a short while And to hear you all say that Im heading in the right direction...well it's just too cool !! THANKS Patton

OK sports fans! here's the deal,I'm changing my concept slightly, Mom's gone and her little dog too! too much clutter, too much time wasted tring to make a bad composition work.
I sat last night tring to put my son to sleep and thought, why not? So, forget all that other stuff.

I forgot, here's what the final image is about.
If you have kids you know, you soon understand that you may make the rules and have control over the car keys, but that only works when they are old enough to to think they need to drive. when they are really young you find out that they are in control, they cry...you jump, you don't jump?...they cry untill your head explodes..so you jump! they smile ... you smile, they cry you want to cry, and so it gos forever. You keep them fed and warm they smile and laugh, they are the Masters, but you will never do any thing better with your life than serve them! So Chin up they will sleep...someday!
Thanks PATTON
P.S. I can't seem to upload my final Tif , I have 5 hrs and I don't think that I will ever get it to upload...
