View Full Version : New to 3D design - Software question
AllThingsAlien 04-04-2005, 04:22 PM Howdy!...All....I am new to the 3D designer world. Please don't get me wrong I have been watching for a long time. What I mean by new is I want to give it a whirl. I am traditionally a graphic designer / illustrator. I have skills, but not like the kick butt stuff I have seen on this site. In fact I have been inspired and I would like some help in making a few software decisions. I am familiar with some of the big name 3D titles such as Max, Maya, Lightwave...etc....But more importantly I do not have a clue which one is the most recommended to start learning. I have Photoshop and Illustrator and I can zing around in them pretty good.
What I really need to know is:
1. Do most people use a 3D program?
2. If so what are some recomendations for cheapest to get rolling with? Maybe even free?(wishful thinking)
3. If not....then holy cow......
Finally...Can I just say that EVERYTHING I have seen on this site is outstanding. I have read a lot of the individual critiques and I am really impressed about the great feedback everyone gives...
Thank everyone in advance

Hi,
The question have been asked before in the forum. Do a search and you will find the answer you need.
My two cents ... get free software if you're a beginner ... Blender 3D and Wings 3D (Great for beginner and always used by the pro because of simplicity and versatility software)
Or
Go to the website of the software you have mentioned and get a demo/trial version. I really don't recommend you buying those software now coz you don't have any idea of which software you need. Just try it first.
Do a google search and you will find it.

That was more than I could ask for. I will check out the "Basic" versions right away.

Ahh...come on now!....Yes, I have not seen your work, and at this point I must quote a little of Mark Twain..."One mustn't criticise other people on the grounds where he can't stand perpendicular himself." And I am for sure in that boat... Where can I locate this now infamous horrid work of yours? I would greatly like to see and pass my judgment.....:D

I guess I need to tool around a little more to find out the answers to my questions...especially ones that I'm sure and I quickly found out have been asked and answered I'm guessing since before this site ever said hello.
Thank you for the links to the info....
Cheers!....
