Matt Forcum has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=7204)

Latest Update: Post Effects and Compositing: Paint Test

Here is a test I did with the head I had previously created. I was curious to see what the final result would be. I am very pleased with how this test turned out and I may paint the rest of this piece in the same loose way. It gives the piece a certain amount of energy and I really like it.

Well I broke down and decided to do another robot piece. I have had this particular image in my head for a couple of years, so I decided to get it out of my head.

This robot has only one job, knows only one thing. He must protect his master. Unfortunatly his master died centuries ago. The robot, knowing nothing else, having no will of his own, still stands and protects his master. Rubber has long since rotted away, metal has become pitted and rusted, hydraulic fluid dried up, the robot leans heavily on his staff trying to remain upright, struggling against the inevetable that is soon to come.

Ephesus! Welcome to the challenge. It's a nice picture, but is very similar to a concept that ebrowning (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=223921&highlight=browning) was working on recently. I'm sure you both could approach the same concept from different angles, but I wanted to give you a head's up anyway.

Good luck!

Alrighty. Here is a quick sketch for my next idea. Pretty self explanitory.

I need to really work on her expression, she should have a bit of a sly smile.

It should all come together in Maya.

Well, the thing about that concept is that it violates the number one rule I have about 3-D: It has to contain something that cannot be easily recreated in real life... so, its back to the drawing board....again.

I am finalizing a major project at work this week, so I think I will have alot more free time very soon.

work before play.

This is my final concept sketch. I already started the model. It's a quick one, but you can get the basic concept. Basically this is a play on the whole Master/servant Idea. This artist is a master, yet he is obsessed by his art. He is a servant of the canvas. Sometimes he feels like he can control the paint, sometimes it is the paint that is controlling him. He is so obsessed with his work that he has forgotten about everything else. He has locked himself in this room away from all light and color. The only color in his life is on his canvases.

I am rambl'in a bit here. (and mispelling every other word.) I apoligise for that, but you get the Idea. Next up. the model.

Well, since everyone has been asking for an update...(cough)...I decided to post one. Here is the beginning of my modeling process. I am acually taking this oppertunity to try a new technique and I gotta say that so far I like it alot.

For those who don't know, I am modeling the head a piece at a time using Polygon Planes. This is a very nice quick and dirty way of doing it. Because I am trying to work fast, (no time to devote alot of time to this.)I didn't bother with orthographic drawings to use as refrence. (I wish now that I did.) And I kinda screwed up the whole cheek, chin area a lot. But it will work just fine, so I will move on from here.

I have just started work on the forehead area and will soon get to the ears. when I get the whole head done I will submit again.

An additional note: I am going to model this guy "pre posed" so no skinning or boneing will be done. It just takes to much time for a "one off" piece like this. so keep that in mind as we move through this project.

Well, Here is the new head. I followed the old one to its end, and well, it kinda sucked and didn't match the concept skech. (thats what I get for not using refrence.) So I decided to do it over. Its basically a Sub-D object I sculpted really quickly. All of the little mistakes and stuff will be painted over in photoshop. the ear is a seperate piece, and it really sucks, so I will be repainting the whole thing pretty much...

Doesn't look like I will be able to finish this one this time. Oh well, I gave it a good run, but work comes first!

Good luck to everyone who entered.
