My prediction, dumb. You just can't make a movie about fighters battling it out in a magical tournament to save the world.

Why not? Mortal Kombat did it to good effect, as did the two Street Fighter animes.

I'm not surprised they are doing this but I think it's going to suck. We shall see

You seem to forget, Mortal Kombat had a story all along. They even had a few adventure games if I'm not mistaken...

As for Street Fighter, it also had more of a story with all the traveling around the world junk in the SNES ones.

I've never played Tekken, however, so I could be wrong.

Well everyone was competing in a "tournament" of sort in MK... so yeah... that's a story. From what i've played with Tekken I haven't seen a real reason all these people are fighting. You got a dude with a cheetah head, a robotic guy, your typical karate men/women... dunno. Unless I'm missing something :/

I'm actually excited to see what they do with the Doom movie though :) haha. and that's based on a FPS. So...

Regarding the Doom movie...a tenner says they don't film the entirity of the film using a first person camera... :D

On a movie site I check almost daily, Joblo.com, it had an article about the tekken movie... here is the text in the article, or click here (http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=5147) to check out the article yourself, but I must warn you, there is a somewhat provocative picture on it, but no nudity...

"Just wanted to give the skinny on a few comic book/video game properties that have been seeing some movement lately. While not being the most popular properties around, they do allow me the unique opportunity to showcase the unbelievable hottie that is Jennifer Love Hewitt. Hewitt's sweater puppets, of her own admission, have a more thriving career than she does at the moment, especially after her involvement in the critically reviled GARFIELD. Will this next movie allow her to catch up to the heights her milk bladders have attained? Doubtful. It's called DANGER DIVA and it's based on the comic book of the same name which tells the story of a singer whose voice becomes a deadly weapon. Writer/director of DIVA, Robert McGinley, mentioned he's considering Hewitt for the title role. It looks to me that, unless Hewitt wants the distance between her and her sugar melons to keep increasing, she won't take this role.
Next up, Filmjerk is reporting that the Dr. Dolittle of the ocean, AQUAMAN, has received some new life after years of dormancy. Sunrise Entertainment's (STARSKY AND HUTCH) Alan and Peter Riche have come onboard to push this project into production with newbie scribe Ben Grant penning the script. For extra info, click HERE (http://www.filmjerk.com/new/article-1015--0-0.html). Finally, if you're a Tekken fan, you'll be excited to know that a TEKKEN movie is in active development under director Charles Stone III (DRUMLINE, MR. 3000 (http://joblo.com/upcomingmovies/movies.php?id=170)). And, even if you're not a Tekken fan, you can be excited to know that TEKKEN will allow for some serious hottie action. IESB recently had a chat with the director and mentioned that the movie will be radically different from other video game to movie properties and have a story in the vein of Bruce Lee's ENTER THE DRAGON. For more on that, click HERE (http://www.iesb.net/movies/movie82604e.htm)."

That would have probably been a great idea. At least moreso than having The Rock as the main character...

I like the rock :D.......but hey the mortal combat movie, at least the first one was not bad for an action/game movie...you can't go into a movie like that expecting an award winning story....I think though that a tekken movie could be watchable...like it has been said I guess we will see

ok, so we got Tekken, HL2, MK, SF, RE... where the hell is the MGS movie?! :DI seem to recall Mr. Kojima being asked about this... again and again and again. From what I've read, he wants to have somebody else direct it and he wants it to have an original story and not be based on one of the games. If a movie of it ever gets made I certainly hope it's by somebody who can pull of the largely weird dialog they always have. Quentin Tarantino seems to be able to do that with odd lines and freaky characters (not to mention cool action scenes), but I just don't know.

By the way, is anybody else thinking that Hideo Kojima needs to kill the Metal Gear franchise after MGS4? I mean, it's fun and all, but I really think that somebody as creative as that guy needs to do some more stuff like Zone of the Enders and Boktai. I want to see some more wacky oddball Japanese stuff! Let Snake have some peace once and for all.

The manga Tekken movie was pretty good. I will wait and see. Low expectations on the horizon for me though.

actually when I heard that they were making a Doom Movie I imediatly though the Rock would be a good space Marine. I only found out that he was going to be in the Movie when on the daily show John Stuart told his guest (The Rock) that he played Doom 3. thats when the rock mentioned that he was going to be the main character. they both went on to talk about the difference of the weapons in the movie and in the game. I was amazed that John Stuart actually played that.

also didnt Tekken have a big story? I never played it but I remember something about a guy killing his brother or his dad or somthing then that guy coming back and a whole series of twists like theres an evil brother and a good one. I could be totally wrong since I have not played this series other than the ocasional time at a friends house

Tekken has a storyline. mainly, Heihachi Mishima runs the Mishima Corporation and he has the King of the Iron Fist Tournament to show off he is the best fighter. he has a son who hates him, the son rapes a girl names Jun, who has a kid names Jin. Jin comes back to fight the other two [they all hate each other]. the blood of the devil travels through the Mishima family....

it could be a good movie if they got the right person to do a script and some good fighters in there. since Lei Wulong was created after Jackie Chan, it would be cool to see him fill that roll. there are plenty of back stories and plots that they couldn't show them all, but could make a good movie out of some of them. lets hope the right people get on board. also, a Tekken movie has supposedly been in the works for years. with every new tekken game, rumors start floating around.

[i did write up a long description of the history of Tekken and most of the storyline in it, but damn cgtalk asked for my password and i lost the post....]
