hey, not bad for a first matte...
it would be nice to see the different elements as originals and then the final matte...
and what you are trying to achieve with it...
a few things I see:
think about the proportions between the different elements, see your trees (spruce) vs the windows or the leaf-tree
also to think about is the way the shadows fall tells it all... see your moon for example...
try to correct source footage like a straight horizon, brightness and contrast levels and depth of field - I see the craters on the moon
and the ripple on the water, but then again I don't know what you want to attain with it...
Im not a professional matte artist but I have done a few through the years and Im pretty sure some professionals here
will correct me if Im wrong or ad what I missed...
keep up the good work and good luck!!!

Hi,
Having recently completed my first matte painting I thought i had to comment, as I had a nightmare with mine!
The main thing that jumps out is the fact the mountain and the castle feel as if they are a similar distance away from the viewer. I feel the mountain should be less saturated, maybe add some colder colours to push it backwards. I think you could also help it my changing the central strip of trees that seems to float above the foreground forest- they need to sit back more. As mentioned above perhaps the scale needs tweaking.
Id probably concentrate on nailing just one of the shots, rather than trying to do both. You need to really think about where your lightsource is too- if you get that fixed then shadows will be easy to figure out.
Good luck.
