Hi All

I've been working on comping a CG elephant into a photo, and wanted to get some feedback in regards to either doing a still shot or doing a previz style animation. If you follow the link below you can watch a low rez version of what I mean. I just want to know what would be better to put on a reel. The lighting doesn't really differ within the background; The only thing that really effects the elephant is a rim light on top with a cue couloirs effect. That being said I was leaning toward a still image and adding in some cg plants and veins to make it a little more complex, as well as reposing the elephant to look grounded. I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Hi Avedis,

I haven't looked at the video so these comments are based only on the still you posted. Here goes -

I think the key to fill ration could be higher. The top of the beast should be brighter and the flanks and underside a bit darker. Looking at the branches there seems to be quite a lot of top light.
For dramatic effect I'd play up the cuculoris effect a bit more.
The skin seems a little drab, I'd expect to see more texture and breakup in the skin. It looks very uniform at the moment.
I also think that there's been some funky grading being done on the background image which you'll need to mimic in the composite of the CG. The plate looks pretty saturated and contrasty. You may be better off doing this in the comp rather than trying to light it that way.
Hope those pointers help a bit.

All the best,

Andrew

Hi Andrew

Always great to hear feedback from you Andrew. Your suggestions will definetly help sell the shot more if I can execute them properly. Thanks for all the help, I'll update the post as soon as the changes are done.

Thanks

Avedis
