Hi all,
For a uni assignment we had to model a table and chair set. The set had to be the focus but we needed to develop a scene for them to make it as 'realistic' as possible.
I went for an outdoor table setting.
Anyway Im looking for ideas on composition and the textures...hence me not posting wireframe etc (if you really want to see other renders let me know)
but my important thing is trying to increase the 'realism' to my scene because at the moment I feel like it screams CG.

Any ideas, suggestions, criticism etc would be great
Thanks

CG!!! (lol it doesn't let me put as many "!"s as i want)

well here is an idea,...rigth now what makes it look fake the most is the background...and ground....here is an idea...make it like a roof top scene,...gravelly roof top surface,..use bump and to try n make it look good,...make a railing,...and then...put a picutre of a city meeting a sky,...or if you can find a decont one...put it at an angle where you can just put a picture of the sky.....

the texture needs lots of work too,....

I would think outdoor settings would be harder because you have to deal with more reflected light but also not make it too bright.

I agree, the background does not work, not just with the tables, but with itself. I dont think I have ever seen tile that goes out to a yard....or wall with that texture. Since it is an outdoor scene the shadows would not be nearly that sharp... actually they are too sharp even for indoors. IMO all the textures need "dirtied up" so they aren't so perfect, especially the top of the tables, even if you just did some scratches that would be better. Also, there are only 2 unique objects in your scene, the rest are just duplications. Maybe change some of the chair parts up a bit and add something on the tables...and/or something else around them, give your scene a meaning...not just "hey look some chairs and tables", an example would be putting stuff on the tables that indicate it is being setup for a picnic, not for a magazine picture.

I hope I didn't come off to blunt, but just trying to help.

Yeah the background is definately not working for you. Your tables and chairs arent that bad. It feels like they should be a little more glossier. But not too much! Try to determine what material your chairs and tables are supposed to be made of and then base it off of that to find out how glossy, or blunt, or textured it is supposed to be. You do need a lot more vareity also, You should also zoom in more on your focus of the peice. Add a lot more detail to the tables and chairs and zoom in on that a little more to make it look more real. Keep it up.
