Hi,

I'm new to Blender and very interested in this software, but alas having difficulty doing the simplist things...

Following the tutorial "Noob-to-Pro", the section to create a simple person. I'm having trouble understand this part:

Hit NUM1 to go to front view. Hit AKEY to deselect the current vertices. Select the two vertices in the upper right hand corner of the leg. Again, you'll need to rotate your view a little with the MMB to be able to see all the verticies. After selecting these two vertices, select the two vertices that are immediately below them. In total you should now have four vertices selected.

Hit EKEY, choose Region, and you guessed it, hold CTRL to set them in the spot so that the box is the same size as all the others. Do it one more time. Now you have the left leg and the connector between the legs.

When I select the two upper vertices and try to select the two bottom ones, and try to Extrude the cube, the cube becomes messed up, and I cannot continue the tutorials.

Please help clearify.

There's a better way to select the vertices you want:
In wireframe mode, front view, deselect all vertices then press B for box selection, drag a box to select the vertices then extrude (E key) the region (not individuals vertices).

Tried the BKEY method.

At least one edge does not get included in the extrude.

Well, you can try other selection method:
Go to solid viewport, then rotate your scene to see the region you want to select.
Now, in Edit mode, go to Face select mode (there's an icon with triangle shape on the Header, or press Ctrl+Tab and choose Face), select the face and extrude it! :D

Maybe now works!

ricesteam,

There are a number of ways to select vertices in Blender.

In edit mode:
If some of the vertices are already selected pressing the A-key will deselect them. If you press the A-key again it will select all vertices.

You can individually select vertices by moving your cursor near the vertice you want to highlight and right click on it. There is a slight delay so wait a spilt second before moving the cursor to your next vertice. Holding the shift key down will allow you to collectively highligt indivdiual vertices.

Also, when in Edit mode and shaded view, you will not be able to select the "hidden" vertices unless you had previously turned off the hidden view. This button appears on the window header in shaded view, its a picture of a cube next to the tringle (face select).

Also, make sure you are not in Shaded mode (Z). If you are in shaded mode, only the top verts will be extured and you will end up with a 2d Plane.
