Lee William John Cocks has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=7144)

Latest Update: Modeling: Cubicle WIP
http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/7144/7144_1114152630_medium.jpg (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/entries/9/7144/7144_1114152630_large.jpg)

Starting on the cubicle, since there will be about 300 in scene i am keeping it all pretty simple, no sub-surfing really just edge bevel. the 2nd one behind is just the frame to test how they will connect, from now i think ill model a desk chair, computer, fax machine, power cords, and all the folders and papers lying around. No texturing yet, just 3 shades of grey with the slightly blue area light.

Really nice! I love the skin and the hair texture. Look like basses noted about the lips and the eyes. I think if you clean the mesh abit it would be better.
Cheer! Keep the post coming.

LohnC, she's looking good.

Did you use the MHsss script for the skin shader?
Nice to see another blender user on the contest.

While modelling the rest of her, just going through lighting and shading experiments, among many this seems to be the kind of direction i want to go.

The theme of my entry will be about something that i am putting up with right now with my current boss and many before: "The Power-Hungry (and backstabbing) Career Woman!" devious type of female this is, and in some annoying cases really good looking.
The entry will be based on a young woman, in the place of power over the bill payers (trying to get that phone bill payed at a boring job and still do CG art 50 hours a week =P)...

woot! nice to see you in this challenge :) was a pleasant surprise finding out. I'm excited to see what you come up with- It's looking pretty idyllic at the moment, the model has come along fantastically, this is by far the best head I've seen from you yet. She's got real "life" behind those eyes.
Wish I had time to participate in this, It's a nice topic.

She very cute. I think you've done an excellent job i not making the model look "lifeless". She not bland and generic, she has a personality and it looks like a bit of ethnicity to her which is refreshing.

Keep up the brilliant work and I look forward to seeing more updates.

wow i woke up this morning with a shock to see all these replies hahah, i have never had mroe then 3 at any post here at Cgtalk.

Thankyou so much for your support, your compliments mean a lot! =D

BlackNull: ah yeah i noticed this, i am a fan of having a bit more of a cushy push into the corner of the lip, i think ill do a bit more work in either the modelling or texturing to fix this, thanks =D

Well ive started her body as of this morning and the basic conept for the scene, i should have some more updates (this time ill include a lot more progress behind the scenes too) very soon, thankyou again for your kind words and insights, Good Luck to all! :applause:

Heres the progress on the hair, since this was a still i wanted to try something besides the normal alpha map on each strand, so i opted to try for something that will look ab it more stylistic in a cg render. Pretty much a layer for colour and specular differences (multiply for colour), and an alpha map to thin the hair a bit. Finally a test render to see how it looked.

fixed the skin colour a bit, and started on the clothing (15 minutes up to this point so not much to look at). Added basic colour to current clothing to help match up colour scheme for her skin and hair.

thanks DaddyMack =D. The idea for the scene is running constantly through my head as i work, unfortunately i am aweful at drawing so whether i do a 3d still-a-matic (opposed to an animatic heheh) or a concept drawing ill figure out today or tomorrow, my ideas for now involve an office type setting, with a lot of analogy into the one frame, im going to try something as stylistic as i can to try and push my skills. Showing a few things, number one, that this stereotype woman im reflecting has a very human side too =). Is she a servant to the circumstances of world and work? or are the workers she takes it out on the servants? ... or, are we all, so many levels one can take many of the ideas put into all the great entries in this contest =)

Ill keep the updates coming as much as i can, this owuld have to be the most fun ive had in a 3d contest btw =D

Good luck again to all!

Today I\'m setting up the type of design I want for the girls clothing, since one has to fit so much into one still, I am opting to use her fashion very highly to depict who she is, so the whole still can have a lot of analogy. My initial idea is trying to mix in an office type uniform, but then lower down her body, end up depicting more girly clothing, pink skirt, knee high socks which have dropped down a bit and some pink shoes, not sure which type of shoes yet, that comes next. Anywho here are the very rough sketches I came up for with her dress, please understand how rough these are heheh, being the fact in modelling I am only don to her neck >_<, these images are only to get an idea for the clothing colour scheme and style so I can confidently model, so you should look at it far away and while squinting ;)

Very cool approach, using the fashion to depict multiple aspects of the character's personality. I think you're on to something there, but the pink trim seems to clash a little too much with the rest of the suit for my tastes. Since the pink only occurs at the bottom, and quite suddenly, it seems a little forced and may be too strong visually. (e.g. your eyes will always drift towards it, possibly taking away from other areas of the composition) Only you know how it will all come together. ;)

As you're playing with the design, you could try adding hints of her "girly" personality throughout the entire suit. (e.g. pink cuffs, hello kitty pin on chest, "girly" socks with lacey trim, etc.) Or, you know how dresses often have "slits" on the side so the woman can actually sit and move while wearing them? You could try putting the pink trim inside the slit creating a double meaning. On one hand you show her "girly" personality, but it's covered by her business suit. Kind of like her work/job is hiding her true self. Just thinking out loud...I'm sure you'll make some great choices regarding the character. You have a great design sense and I love watching your progress on this. Keep it up!

hey safe05 thanks so much for for your input, since i knew i wanted to give the personality while still keeping good fashoin i was stuck with this idea for the clothing with no idea at all, this is kinda my start on it, so ive been looking to everybody for their insights. I really love the idea's you have, with these first sketches i was wondering how to subtly include to 2 colours to mix well top and bottom, i think the idea of the suit folds is a wonderful idea and im going to put it into practice immidietly on her concept, i need to get into fashion a bit more hahah. =D

Me too for sure! Lovin it

If she ends up a servant she would most definitely be a really cheeky, or insubordinate one and have a seriously teased master. Could be interesting to communicate.

Keep the quality rolling in LJ!

conundrum: hey hey good to see another aussie round too =) i see some here and there, isnt this place hosted by an adelaide ocmpany? *hurrah*, this is my first contest here so i havnt really kept such tabs on the last ones, i know for a fact Aussie cg guys like to hide, i didnt know of one cg place in my town, but suddenly they pop up when you get contacts =)

good luck btw, i saw your thread, will be keeping close eye on it, cant wait to see more =D

Peace out!

oh ps: DaddyMack: she will be playing mainly the master, but if ones thinks so deeply she can be the servant, this can happen in a lot of cases i think, its fun to play with =)

After being a bit rusty on the cloth modelling, i finally got a good start on it, exuse the lack of arms ;)

Also playing around with the pink to try and mix in the design for when her skirt changes rapidly, and a headset with a blue LED which i will probably make brighter in the end, to help put emphasis to her eyes and face.

thanks so much for the wonderful compliments, really boosting me heheh. =D

dmonk: as some jackets have the fold on the side for sitting etc, idea thanks to safe05, i tried to give it some colour to help the overall design, as i go i may keep it or not depending on how the design goes, in the end i will probably define it a bit more to let people understand what it is, underlying pink lace on the inside of the fold.

Just finished work, 7am, time for more work on her =D

thanks again for the words of encouragment, i havnt really worked at this level before heheh.

I agree with the above, it's shaping up really nicely so far! The expression on her face is really captivating and the details you have added to her mid section promises that the rest of the model will shape up just as well. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next!

Well, getting there... just. Too many days working my day job heheh. Just experimenting some more: Hair clip, headset (not seen so well, but will tweak on that especially) etc. As I try new render tests at modelling checkpoints I have been kinda flipping between lighter and darker skin, clothing contrast etc, seeing what will fit with the feeling i have in my head of the scene. Scene ideas are getting thrown, when I have a slid idea I will composite the main progress and post that ASAP.

`mb: i am a firm beleiver of the 'artist rather then tool'. blender is a very artistic style of 3d program for me, and i am a big part of the community and promoting, i prefer it personally, as ppl have their own preferences, had i done this in MAX, LW or XSI etc, it would look almost the same, my skills are nowhere near to making the tool limit me, in my current choice of program or any other, thanks again for your reply =D

This is one of the 2 rough scene ideas put into a frame from my mind, this one having the girl as 2IC, the position where one 'is amongst the people' thus making it a good place to have the power this certain breed of female wants, while not having to put up with all the paper work and dodging all the bad stuff, when the manager comes along, she hides the backstabbing, and uses her manipulative cuteness to distract the manager (a male in this case). They are the sith of the workplace, almost impossible to sense what they are really planning.

I am playing with a background action in which the officeman fired, put into analogy as dead to the workplace, is actually freed of his chains, he walks outside, feeling a lot less stressed, as he is about to walk out the emergency exit represented as a sort of ghost, he will be smirking toward the girl. They can take your job, but thats about the worst of it.

since i stopped drawing at age 11 thanks to one negative art teacher, i have chosen to rather attempt a more collage look to my concepting for projects with deadlines, focusing on colour, placment etc, so exuse the lack of good perspective etc, my speed of drawing well, and my skills at CG are not so refined just yet to be able to do the concepting and then strait away do the 3d, thus i am mixing in some of what I have modelled as I go for camera angles, colours etc then mix them and test them in the 3d renders too and efficiently improve and get it right as it comes together. Unfortunately for what I wish to acheive I have to do this given the time limit, but i find it works quite well for this.

The image here and the sketch one update previous are the 2 themes I am deciding between, the 2 are quite similar but the changes affect the master servent relationship on the deeper levels. This one is taking away her title as 2IC and making her the actual manager, though a basic version there are a lot of things i may take or add to help sell the theme and get my idea across, but ive put in the main elements for now.

thankyou very much for your kind words =) really inspiing.

the wire is bit dodgy i do agree, in the previous 8 months or so i have been moving house and job, working on pre-production for an independent film also left me not doing any cg really for this time. Getting back into it all again i found myself a bit rusty heheh. The topography for her is nowhere near perfect, if i end up animating her at any later date i would restructure her, or maybe just not use her for any animation, since it was for a still i went with what got the job done, this is kinda 'getting back into it' contest for me =)

thansk again, ill update as soon as i can, maybe some high heel boots? ;)
