What's the best way to model like this in C4D? I've had plans of my own car for ages, but I'm not sure of the best NURBS tools to use to do it. Any ideas?

c4d's nurbs tools are rather weak, but you can try a number of different routes. The first one might be to use loft nurbs through a number of spline shapes defining the panels.
a second attempt might be made by deforming a nurbs plane.
a third, and probably most contralloable way would be to use a hypernurbs object on a plygon mesh. just build up your poly mesh to roughly show the car panel shapes then put it in the hypernurbs and refine from there.
of course everyone models in a diffferent way, some model using points and making polys between them, others model extruding edges, others model from a box extruding and knifing down adding detail that way. it's really up to you try them all out, there are lots of tutorials on the web for these things. see which ones work for you helping you to achieve what's in your head the easiest way for you.

mentioned No. 4 a simple but time instense modeling tech. Polygon by polygon. bit by bit. Just attach HyperNURBS for smoothing this cage. The tech using HN for the whole and doing the cage out of a box is really weak. There is no real control if you are not very good with HN and do not exactly know where your edges in the model are.

Dont forget supernurbs as well :)

Excellent reference link...much appreciated....but the thought of modelling my knackered old saab 9000 fills me with absolute fear!!! Unless I went all mad max style on it and got to convert it into a saab tank

Go for it. Make a change from all the virtual Audi TT's around the web... my boss drives one, too, you can't get away from 'em.

Do you think there are so many TTs being modeled because it's an attractive car, or because it's probably the easiest car to model? :)

knight42: thanks but no thanks....I shall not be modelling any saab 9000 tanks any time soon....I did say F E A R.
Personally I recon any sort of nurbs would work on a TT but you might have a bit more difficulty with the Saab...I don't think the Saab have heard of curves!!!

well saab's are in fact fairly curvy... being an aviation manufacturer...
but the perfect thing for box modelling would be a volvo.

There are probably lots of TTs because it's an attractive car AND because it's easy to model, but being a not very good modeller I might be wrong... seems to be all circles and straight lines...
Saw a bright yellow one in the local dealer here. it looked bad, really bad...

Audi TT is an ugly car, wouldn't wanna own one if I had it given to me.

your one of few that thinks that way. Personally I love them, but of course no one ever agrees with my tastes n cars. Give me a shelby mustang, a new bug, TT, prowler, and a PT cruiser and I am happy, a porsche never hurts anyone of course, but give me a lambourghini, viper, jaguar and any mustang from mid 70's thru mid to late 90's a and I'm likely to drive it thru the first wall I see.
Well not really I would sell it and buy a good car with the money.

I think the TT is pretty in the hard top, but the rag top is butt ugly--ruins the lines completely. But then I like the Mini, so what the hell do I know. ;)
