‘Hell Harpoons’: Operation Normandy
(Inspired by Cervantes’ Don Quixote)
Retired ww2 veteran lieutenant colonel ‘Don Jose Garcia Armando III’ of the US marine Corps and his old friend, comrade and ‘Aide-de-camp’ corporal ‘Emilio Sanchez Paznar’ riding a modified vintage motorcar in chase of the lethal devil panzer tanks, hunting them down on the roads of Normandy, northern France. They named themselves the ‘Hell Harpoons’.
Ok, sounds cool, but there is only one problem, the year is 2005 (60 years after the war is finished) and those monstrous Panzers are truly almost-harmless small and shiny modern family cars!
Nobody knows how many cars they have wrecked. They just suddenly appear, smash a parked car and disappear without any trace, just like the old partisans but without casualties! Tiger tank or Volkswagen beetle, there is no difference. Surprisingly all police pursues on them have gone unsuccessful till now.
Characters:
Jose G. Armando -of a noble family- is 80 years old and a total freak. He has never been in war against Nazis. Actually he joined the force in 1945 right after the war is over, but he was living in his fantasies, such a comic book geek and a Hollywood movie fanatic who was hunting the Nazi tanks all the time in his dreams, he was unlucky that the war just finished a few hours after he signed in! He is the master mind of the group and a weapon specialist.
Emilio S. Paznar is 60. He joined military service in 1965 and meet Don. Their common route and interests makes them very close friends and since Don had a greater rank he became Don’s trustful Aide-de-camp. He is not cleaver but wiser than his chief. He knows his place and he is just there to help, obey, and clean the mess that old freak causes all the time, frankly he saved Don’s life more than 10 times. Also he is a very great mechanic; it was him who prepared their 1930 powerful 8 cylinders road runner for the operations.
Their passion about the ww2 bravery action stories simply overran their anti-communism fever and post-ww2 cold war era. So they formed a team named ‘Hell Harpoons’ in 1985 after they resigned from Military and decided to go back to Normandy where they had some unfinished business! A bit too late though, but who cares, they could still find some German tourists spending their miserable vacation in France!
The group has a third member too (he sits right behind Don in the cargo place. He joined ‘Hell Harpoons’ in 1995. but lets forget him now! I just can tell you that he is young boy and responsible for the supply and supports.

Hi ila_solomon,
Very, very cool car design. You kept that 30-40's retro-cartoon-style! Amazing.
The only thing which concerns me is that on scetches cars appears elastinc and soft and if it will fit existig model (or vice-versa).

Ladies and Gentlemen, here is the latest and the last update! I think I am going to end this, reasons? ok... here is the most important one:
I'm developing a short animation, I've started a few months ago and it has a few months to go, If I suspend it I wont be able to send it to Ottawa's animation festival (deadline is 18 june!), and since I like this Idea of my challenge (though it's not so master/slave relative) I'd rather keep it for a better use (like a comic strip or a short animation) or for another challenge (that may fit this better).
So, I appriciate everynody's encouragement and support here, thank you all. and I'm still tracking the challengers' every move! :-)
wish me luck with my little short animation project instead!
(Seems now challengers have more chance to win! :P)
Regards

As much as I hate to see the 'realists' profit from the withdrawal of your wonderful, toonish entry - I hereby give you a hardy handshake.
Post a clip from your short and you'll get front page! But don't post everything - that qualifies as publication and will make the film ineligible for some festivals. You can post the whole kit'n'kaboodle after you've cleaned up all the prizes ;-)
ilasolomon
04-10-2005, 09:37 AM
Thanx Reza
Right, David, Only 1/2 of film is online (and 1/2 of SB too) for preview only. will be like this all the way! (rest will be available for the members of the 'brainpets' order in a secret place!)
I'm simultaneously happy and miserable.... On the one hand, I (and everyone elese) no longer has to compete with you - this makes me happy! On the other hand, there won't be any updates on your thread - this makes me very unhappy...
However, the prospect of seeing your animated short in few months does sort out the balance & has me grinning again. :D
You realise you are going to have to keep everyone here constantly updated on your progress - it's the least you can do after teasing us with such fantastic concepts and then running away.
Good Luck Ila - now get moogooing!

Lol! ... Frinsky, I mean this post: :D
Regards
Ila

oh, okay, good luck then. I suppose now you have more time for that little shortfilm of yours, so you'd better keep us posted and hurry up a little or we'll get really really impacient and angry and we will erase all your files in your hd and you will have to start all over again and will regret the fact that you've abandoned this challenge for the rest of your life.
ha!

Hi ila!
Wow, I have a dream to deal prfessionaly with animation but I steel need to learn a lot! Now I unfortunately have no time but will be back to watch that link for short.
Btw, your machineflesh entry I find the best one (ok, it is honest oppinion and no "fan-blabla", just firstly I didn't notise the name but now I did turned back and it you!)
Really pitty you're not in for this time but life is interesting stuff - still lots to happen!
