Okay, here's an update to my tabletop scene, incorporating the map resulting from the workshop with Grey a few weeks ago. The parchment rolls at the back also use the same tecniques. I'm not going to spend too much longer on this as I seem to be just tweaking it instead of actually learning anything from it.

Comments welcome...

Nice image. The parchment looks a little stiff and to straight.
Try a little crumple effect on it.

Very nice image!

The only thing that bothers me is that I don't understand what that larger shadow-like circular area on the tabletop around the candle is. I don't see anything in the scene that would cause such a shadow, and if it is not a shadow, what is it?

it's the top of the candle itself.

version 8 will allow light occlusion on objects which will be good for getting rid of the extra shadow (i think there's an extra light above the candle flame causing the inner circular shadow on the candle holder)...

Yeah, that extra shadow is because I'm using two lights above the candle, can't remember why now though...

Hey! Ndat! I'm not that old! I don't think, anyway. The wax seals have my initials on them, just for completeness. I'm glad you saw them as seals, I was worried they wouldn't show up well enough.

My credit card is already quaking at the thought of upgrading to version 8, I think that extra shadow is all the justification I need...

The parchment actually has a nice fold effect on it where it's been folded up, but the lighting angle hides it completely, which says alot for my compositional skills...
