Hey, Raul, I hadn't noticed your thread before but it's loking great! The concept of "taming" bots instead of just commanding them is interesting. And you main character, with his distinctive profile, is trrific. Great work so far, I look forward to seeing you polish and develop it more. Good luck!

It's really pretty and quite very well handled if i may say so. I can't get away from feeling an Aztec theme from the progress so far, the person in the foreground is beautifully mastered with that as a theme, i must say, well done. I love the ability of the picture to also tell somewhat more about the character. Just look how victorious he is!

darthmikael
04-11-2005, 11:25 PM
Hehehe, your work it's looking really good, but I must clear for all the people who are thinking that your concept is aztec something really interesting culturally speaking...

There are not aztec!...there are Mayan!

I hope that clearing this you can work without the mistaken culture and the ignorance of the general culture that must be teachen somewhere...art it's not only drawings or sculptures...it's also history, procedures, cultures , etc...

Thanks and keep up the good work.....

1.- they are NOT Aztec...are Mayan

2.-Mayans are centro americans... not south americans

I repeat that some so called "artists" must take a book of histroy of the world. It's offensive for me and my culture that all the people of the world don't bother on know about the other cultures, but my culture do bother on know your cultures...not only into the languaje...your history and some of your folklore...but you people don't know a thing about the world that surround you!

Wow, that's looking beautiful! THe man in there looks really good full painted in. The textures are all wonderful. Are you planning on doing anything else with the background? With all of the foreground elements seeming so solid, it seems weird to have literally nothing behind them. I like the mistiness of it, but have you considerred a misted-out version of an actual backdrop? What about Mayan pyramids with radar towers on them?

Also, while the robots mostly work, there are a few parts here and there that seem non-functional even though they should be. All of the robot's hands, for example: the one at the bottom-center feels like it's just a bunch of spheres without any real attachment between them, and the claw on the far left feels like there's no way it could actually close.... What about some slots or grooves or hinges? What about some other moving parts, of which they're mostly devoid? Just something to make them feel like actual animate servants, not just statues?

Anyhow, just ideas, hope you don't mind my posting them. It's stil a quite lovely piece and very distinctive. Good luck!

Hello Mike Thanks for all your comments, robots of bottom they do not even finished, to all need details
I will take your suggestions so that they do not seem so rigid,
About background, a few artist suggest to me to put something, I'm thinking about it.

Sorry for not replying to your thread earlier, I love it by the way! It has evelved into something really special. I love all the Mayan reference, and I don't think there's much I can say in the way of a crit. I love the diffused lighting, it almost looks like a sculpture in itself!

One thing you could try, (you may have already tried it) but in your reference shot of the sculpture, ther is a small amount of bounced light in the chin area, giving it fullness. You could try this on your painting, just to 'pop' the chin out, giving it a little more realism. Maybe prtend its light reflecting from the armour (?). Just a thought!

Its still a stunning image, either way!

Cheers

i love those textures, i wish i know how to do those... one question, is that thingy the master holding a remote or something? coz it looks like he's using a dumbell or something, anyway everyting looks "A"+

What a nice feeling this painting conveys! My crit would be that the robots behind the master doesn't look alive enough. Looks more like as if they are art sculptures that he just did. Maybe something glowing (like eye orbs) will help?

Although the principal idea has been used before, I really do like this work. It's well executed, with a very nice personal style, and atmospheric coloring. (It reminds me a bit of Michael Parkes' (http://www.theworldofmichaelparkes.com/Pages/TheCreationInterview.html) work.)

Are you planning to elaborate on the background? It comes across rather unformed, right now.

Cheers,
:) <- Lutz

gREAT! i LOVE IT! Only suggestion is just to really emphasize the field depth. I think the guy needs to really stick out more and maybe line up the bots or something to show the different distance it has from the boss.

Wow, nice textures! The sharp edged lighting looks a bit off considering the postition of the main light source. As a result, all the characters look almost flat. If a bit of light gradually crept around the curves and faded out? maybe just a bit of light hitting the higher parts of the texture... I think this would help. Still looks great though!!

This is awesome! Have you thought about putting some tiny points of light in the "stone machines"? I'm assuming they're machines- but it would help the concept I think. Either way- this has been excellent from start to finish.http://www.cgtalk.com/images/icons/icon13.gif
