MICROFICHE is a weekly comic strip.

http://www.pregnantembryo.com/microfiche/01-ketchup.gif

It was submitted for publication to a variety of college newspapers and magazines.....not one even sent a rejection letter. :annoyed:

More to come :)

It's not bad, but I think you could do better if you tried.

You should reconsider the weight of your lines. I suggest you take a look here: http://www.inktank.com/AT/index.cfm

Now, I can understand you chose to use the same composition for every frame. It helps establish the dryness of the humour. But it doesn't work very well for frame number 3. The surprising/funny effect of the guy smashing the bottle could be enhanced by at least changing his pose to a more dramatic one.

I'm looking forward to see more of this!

heh, they're pretty funny, the style is a little different, but different is good =)

i have one problem with the first strip though, why does he put ketchup on eggs? why whould anyone put ketchup on eggs??:curious:

Holly shit !!! :D
Not many things make me laugh, but that second one is funny as hell... It made me drool on myself, I had just taken a big gulp of coke before I read it. Man Im lucky I didnt spray my moniter, Good Job now keep it up :)

EAP!

It's disturbing..... but not!

nice simple art

EAP!: If you think that one is disturbing you ain't seen nothin' yet!

NADAT: No food or drink near your computer....but your monitor would have been better than your keyboard. :) (pregnant embryo claims no responsiblity for damage or trauma that may occur after consumption of product - although pregnant embryo will take credit ;) )

CAPT JACKASS: Different is great! Consistency is a restriction.

The question is not "why whould anyone put ketchup on eggs? (although it has been done) but why whould anyone put that vile sludge on 'anything'? And futher more "why do ketchup flavored potato chips exist?" :argh:

Keep posting these pregnant embryo.
I think it is interesting to see a serie develop here.
For the consistancy (sp?) try to use the same typeface everytime (preferably the one you use for the speaking). That way you can keep the visual line in it (if that makes sense).

Cheers, jeroentje

Truth be told...you brought to attention the fact the same font was used for all the all the strips but the last one....some corrections are in order.

Strip #6

Here's a more 'serious' strip for all the philosophers out there. The thought is worth the think!

I like what you're doing, it reminds me of a comic I quite like (for all the dutch/belgium ppl: cowboy henk, lees het! :) )

I was wondering about your 2nd comic: now the fat lady's dead, how can it end ?

Heber
10-27-2002, 01:18 AM
ahaha awesome work...so many artists from bc on this site....probly more tahn anywhere else! nice to see your work....i luv the one about the fat lady...

pregnant embryo
10-28-2002, 05:55 PM
NGKRUSH: Here's da paradox...If it's over when the fat lady 'singes' then the strip should have ended before it started.
Checked out COWBOY HENK...but alas, ignorance of a language other than english again prevents understanding. Will continue to look for translated ones. :)

RAYFUSION: There does indeed seem to be a disporportionate number of BC Canucks and Netherlanders (at least commenting on this thread)....what's the connection? (heeheh) ;)

TRICK or TREAT?

There are reservations about posting this one. Peers have suggested that it is not as strong or entertaining as others...Are there any other views out there?

Put your knives away, light some candles for the dead, pull some chairs around the fire, make some 'punkies' and watchout for spirits...HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

You mentioned in your inital posting that you were hoping for publication. I would suggest that although they are funny, you better watch the subject matter. I'm sure you know what i mean by being politically correct, so i won't dwell.

wildsheepchase
11-13-2002, 08:23 PM
I think the whole point is that the humor isn't pc. I could easily see this type of comic being published in alternative newspapers or magazines.

Im really impressed!!

You may not be able to get published in canada, but you would prolly have a chance in the states......your stuff is awesome!! Love the style, very whitty! I dont care what anyone says, the ketchup one was hillarious!!!! (oh an in case you are wondering there actually is a difference between Ketchup and Catsup......Catsup is english and contains fish paste :) )

Keep bringing out more!!! Kinda reminds me of Red Meat only with a point!

Neil
11-14-2002, 06:35 PM
Just look at the subject matter in a newspaper and you'll see what i mean. I agree that many of them are funny, especially the ketchup one...that's great!

A fat lady burning to death and 2 people laughing about it would NEVER get published. You can make fun of people being stupid or doing something silly, but people burning alive is.... odd.

You are quite mistaken, you have obviously never seen Red Meat..........that strip has been in nationwide publication for almost a decade and they even have a child molesting milkman.......un-pc is what really sells.........the wierder and more depraved the better!!!!! Microfiche is tame in comarison to some of the stuff out there!!!!

KOTSVOLK: Thanks. Hope you stop laughing long enough to have something to eat so you don’t starve to death!

NEIL: PC is a cuss word in my world (The Progressive Conservative party is evil - especially Ralph Klien :) ). Political Correctness is dead. Getting published in an alternative publication ( the mainstream is for the mindless gold fish ) was only a curiosity and a small part of a subtle ploy to get ideas out to as many minds as cost effectively as possible. In the greater scheme of things PREGNANT EMBRYO will self publish MICROFICHE in a collected book(s) ( as is done with all PE works ). REMEMBER IT'S NOT PC...IT'S PE ;)

GENTLE FURY: mmmm....fish paste. Catsup deserves a try! :)
Thanks for the kind words!
It’s interesting that you mention RED MEAT. Although it is very formulaic, that was the strip that inspired MICROFICHE. There are some MICROFICHE strips that make RED MEAT look like tofu - but not yet ready to be permanently banned from CG TALK...It is nice here. :)

Let's test the water a bit. Strip #11 is a little more controversial(?)...

RUKUWA: Not all of them are jokes...don’t worry about ‘getting’ them (I don’t get most the strips in newspapers) as long as reading them wasn’t a waste of your time. ;)

FRAGGLE FART: I hope your feet don’t get cold without your socks :D Funny you should mention publication....MICROFICHE book 1: strips 1-24 Was just printed this week. It will be up for sale shortly at www.pregnantembryo.com (but why buy when you can read most them here for free.) I am honoured that you have the ‘computer/net’ strip on your desktop...feel free to e-mail/spam it across cyberspace if you like!

GENTLE FURY: HAHA!!!! I RULE!!!!!!?? More strips are on the way. With all your encouragment I’ll never stop!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

RISK BREAKER: Dude, Thanks :)

TOBY WONG: Magic beans certainly seems to be the most popular yet. As for the copyright thing....BAH. I appreciate your concern but if someone wants to steal it and redistribute it for me all the power to them (see comment to FRAGGLE FART). We are in the age of free information...music, movies, comics etc.

FISH EYE: Submitted for your approval, a story of a comic strip called MICROFICHE...
Darker side indeed! Thanks for the complement and vote of confidence!

TOBY WONG: The Bay Guardian was one of the only U.S. paper I submitted MICROFICHE to. I recieved no response but I think it was due to the presentation of the strips. In retrospect my submission came across as spam mail. I will probably submit them again in August/September after I have completed a year’s worth. :deal:

IRON BEAR XL: I have done two strips on George W. but neither where high enough quality to meet PREGNANT EMBRYO standards. I am working on another just for you (there is so much material there maybe it will be two!)...hopefully it will be posted before the bombs start falling on IRAQ (I better get my ass in gear cuz that won’t be long! ;) ) Stay tuned!
