WHAT’S NEW?
character studio 3.31 has been updated to resolve customer-reported issues and provide better support for existing character studio 3 features.
INSTALLATION
This installation of the software unzips and replaces the necessary files. The default directory is to c:\3dsmax43. After clicking the OK button, you will be able to change the directory if your 3ds maxÔ 4.3 is in a different location.
AUTHORIZATION
You will not need to reauthorize character studio 3.31 if you have already installed and authorized character studio 3.3.
You can use character studio 3 without a valid authorization if you only intend to preview or render (or net-render) existing character studio characters. If you do utilize 3ds max network rendering, you must update all network-rendering systems with character studio 3.31 to ensure identical rendering results. This does not require authorization.
FILE COMPATIBILITY
character studio 3.31 requires 3ds max 4.3 or higher. It is not supported with earlier versions of 3ds max. All character studio 2.x data files remain forward compatible to character studio 3.
NOTE: Backward compatibility between version 3.x files and all previous versions of character studio is not supported. Specifically, files saved with version_3 software cannot be used by earlier versions of character studio.
WHAT’S FIXED?
BIPED 3.31
· Biped problems with Windows 2000 memory and GDI objects.
Moving and setting keys will no longer cause chronic user interface freezing in Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or higher.
Sliding touchdown and lift-off keys, in the Track View or track bar, will now update the footstep pattern correctly. This prevents possible key/footstep misalignment that may corrupt the motion integrity of the file.
· In Track View, color-coding of leg keys has been restored (as in Biped 2.2) but now the colors match the corresponding footstep color. Now, all planted keys are color-coded. In freeform mode, IK planted keys are color coded the same way, thus making it easy to see where footsteps will be created before making conversions to footsteps.
· In Animate mode, the toe bones now update correctly when the mouse is released in cases when pivot point is positioned on a middle or base toe link.
Loading MAX files with bipeds now correctly allocates GDI objects, so hundreds of animations can be batch processed (using MAXScript), without memory issues.
Fixed bug where rotation of foot pops in certain cases when Animate mode is on.
Loading MoCap with footsteps, opening Track View and sliding keys with the Range Bar no longer causes all but the first key to disappear.
Crash bug fixed when loading BIP file and rotating foot when Biped Motion Panel is not open.
Horizontal bending of Trajectories now updates correctly when dragging the spinner up and down.
PHYSIQUE 3.31
Physique “Off-By-One” naming has been fixed when loading PHY files,. the link names are no longer offset-by-one when loading PHY files.
The naming convention for physique links has been changed when using 3ds max bones. It returns the name of the root node of the link, in the UI. This is a change in naming convention only, the actual node, that begins and ends the link is still assigned the same.Physique.ini now has two user-defined switches for using the v2.2 Rigid Deformation and legacy naming convention.
· The first switch is for the Rigid Deformation algorithm. Version 3.x of Physique introduced a new Rigid Deformation algorithm. The default value is No; setting it to Yes uses the v2.2 Rigid Deformation.
USE_2.2_RIGID_DEFORMATIONS=Yes/No
· The second switch is for the legacy naming convention. The link names are automatically updated on initialization, re-initialization, and file load. The default value is No; setting it to Yes uses the v2.2 naming convention.
USE_2.2_LINK_NAMES=Yes/No
· Physique is designed to have no deformation when the vertex weight is equal to zero. You should not translate the mesh separately, when the vertex weight equals zero. If you want as little deformation as possible, you should set the vertex weight to .001.
