Software: 3ds max, finalRender, Photoshop
Hello there.
Here is my latest work. It tooks me one week of work. I tried to achieve photoreal look.
Blueprints are from http://www.suurland.com/ . I made a lot pictures of real Fiat500L to achieve best details.
All object are modeled as Editable poly. Snow beneath the car is also model but with displace map. It was whole day of painting displace map.
All 3d except houses in background.
Hope you like it.
P.S: It is my first finished car ever so "car fanatics" please be patient and forgive me some bugs on car model. ;)

simply awesome... loved the snow on the ground and on the car.... I'm not crazy about the sun flare but I can't say it's wrong. One other thing, the reflection of the tree on the second car window should perhaps have continued onto the driver's window... but that's nit-picking, kudos on a great job.

Wow
I love how you have the snow tucked underneath were it meets the car. Great observation.
I give this piece 5 stars, however, what would a post be without a comment. I'm sure the reference you may have used will tell otherwise, but I think the pink sky in the background is distracting.
Great subtlety of putting the new clean black car in bkg, it shows appreciation, and how this one is neglected.

The only thing that gives it a way is that the reflections in the paint seem to too clean.

The snow and the ice on car are fantastic, very photoreal model, congratulations!

Just one stupid crit. You could use the old Fiat logo, revamped these very days. You have used the modern one that does not fit that much on a 'cinquino' (loving nickname given by italians to the glorious Fiat 500).
Excuse me but I'm italian and the 500 is part of the italian history like the Pope, Leonardo da Vinci and Julius Caesar.

I'd have to say that this is an amazing snow shader you've achieved here. The displacement map painting time (a day did you say?) certainly shows your efforts!!! This is purely amazing snow! (I've been trying to recreate a realistic look for it, but it always seems too cartoony to my taste.
And thank you SO much for writing up a short tutorial on how to do it, i really really cant wait for it!

Dang.
you've captured the season. The snow around the wheels is especially perfect.
Silly nit picks follow: In my city, that crusty frost stuff on the sides of the car would be whiter. And I think there are a few too many icicles under the side.

04-02-2005, 07:20 AM
top notch work, technically very well done. but one thing seems wrong:
the image layout. the car is very small in reality, and when a photographer takes a picture, it would not be so big. the car takes almost all of the image, which makes it look bigger than it really is.
the backgound and height of the shot look like the viewer is standing, now imagine walking up to the car. the roof would be higher than the viewers head.
chengyeekeen
04-02-2005, 07:54 AM
correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel that the snow on the car...seems more like a blanket. As in, it follows the shape of the car too closely. It gives you the impression that snow falls down at a constant rate which I don't think it ever happens.
There should be like uneven snow on the car. Am I right or wrong?
thx1138

Calm down man, I didn't mean any offense! I was just curious whether you used my material or not? I showed it to you so you'd know what I meant... But obviously you didn't, which is absolutely fine (even if you did). As I said, I was just curious how would my mat look in a complex scene with complex lighting...
This should explain the post. If I offended you in any way, I'm sorry man, I really didn't mean to do so!

Great!
I like the car chosen.
We have here in Macedonia some old Zastava 750's aka Ficho(read Fee-cho).
Same by look and at the time manufactured by licence in Yugoslavia
at the Zastava factory.
Yeah, realy cool choice (instead of a high-tech speedster)
:)
Haha... :)
Some coments still:
The gray patches on the door. I would try without them.
Or reduce their opacity. They look to me out of place. To strong.
and
The pinkish think in the background.
Bottom line, VERY GOOD WORK!
My BRAVO to you!
Keep up the good work!

That's a really great render. Don't know where the CG starts or stops. Only in being told do I see it as CG.
Here's a picture of my car, because it is similar and has comparable features. The only thing CG about it though, is that it is made with pixels.

Gday man,
Love the lighting and the final render, plus the car has great proportions. I only have two crits:
1) the snow atop the car looks a little too perfectly rounded, as if its just been sat on top
2) the reflections on the car are a little too strong and stretched in parts.
Other than that, seriously top notch :buttrock:

The thing I love the most are the detailed texture and finely tuned reflection on the car. The car's shape doesn't look just like another ordinary car either. The only thing that jumps out to me is the wall on the left that sorts of lacks detail; not in the texture itself, but structure wise. It may very well be intended to avoid creating distraction from the center of focus, though. Generally a nicely done piece!

Very nice job! First I really thought it would be a photo! Awesome work done!
The only thing I have to mention is, that there might be to little snow on the bumper, door handle and indicators. But that doesn't keep the realistic look away from that great picture.
Keep up the good work and congrats to your award! :)
hey! It's the Fiat 500 of my mother! i think it was a photo, it's an amazing work!

I absolutely love the snow
Though my only crit: would be that the highly reflective paint, no snow under car and ice sickles give the impression the snow is melting witch would mean it would be smooth ice or wet under car and I presently would think that would give enough back light to see the frount tire.
This of course comeing from some one that lives in the south

Wow! habitually i don't like the 3d cars, because they are never original, but your atmosphere and render is so sweet, realistic and awesome, that i say.... 5 stars! and maybe 6 if i could...
wow, habitually, i don't watch cg car's works, because it's always the same work, without interest, but here, you did such an amazing work on your scene, nice atmosphere, realistic render and original way to make a car, so... 5 stars!

I'm a newbie in CG, and, after seeing this and other great Works in this Forum, I am starting to believe that I am going to remain a beginner forever...Such perfection seems impossible to even get closer to it!!!

this is a stunning rendering n modeling with maya, which is the same software i use too, but im not even able 2 complete a car.
im curious about what modeling method u used on the car. polygons? i always have problem trimming holes on a wide and smooth curvy surface while keeeping the surface looks smooth...could you please give some tips on how 2 do it? i tried very hard looking at the wirefame pic u posted up but its not very clear...
