with mouse? wow! great job so far! the blurriness makes the image feel like she is gazing at us through an icy window in winter. Despite the blurry image, I can see that you seem to know where you are taking this portrait. Great expression in her eyes.
My only suggestions from what i can see, would be to make the lighter areas of her face blend into her skin tone a bit more, it appears right now as though parts of her face are covered by pale makeup. And maybe add a bit more pink/reddish to the flesh tones, almost like a blush, to make her come to life. and to keep working on the hair, and generally bringing more details out of the blurry world, and into being more defined. :)

Thanks Alexandrite for all your comments and suggestions.
I've sharpened and gave more detail at places. Also, I've cropped to a more interesting comp.

Another quick update. The one on the right is an attempt at a "magazine-like" photo look.

looking good!! the emphasis of crisper lines around the eyes definitely help bring attention to the "windows of her soul" so to speak, the eyes are beautifully done. the skin looks much better as well.
i have to say, though, for the post with the difference between the earlier more "painted" image and the "magazine" image, i much prefer the first, "painted" version. :) the "magazine-like" harsh light and contrast brings out somewhat acidic skin tones, whereas you already have painted a lovely skin tone in the original image. The hair in the "magazine-like" image looks good, though, the darker colours and more sparse highlights like you have done there, are working well. perhaps something inbetween the two images would be what you are looking for? :)

I've cleaned up some areas and added detail to others.

Well you brought it together a lot better than I originally thought you would, when I saw the first piece.
I agree with what people have said about the skin tone though. I get a sort of funereal feel from this - like it's a posthumous portrait, since she has that deathly pallor and it's so blurry. My eyes are constantly searching for some point to rest - something in sharper focus and it's sort of annoying that there IS no place in sharper focus.
I'd say too, that the nose needs more tone. It reads quite flat right now because there's no plane change between the bridge of her nose and the end of it and everyone has that.
I think I'd say too, that her mouth isn't wrapping around her head the way it would in the 3/4's view. It's tilting downward on the left, where it should be tilting more upwards.
The eyes too, could use more value changes. They're sitting very flatly on her head the way you have it now, when there are several plane changes involved in the way eyes should sit inside the skull. It could be subtle, so as not to lose the glow you've got going here, but there should be something - otherwise she looks like a wax doll.
I like the softness and her features overall...I just think there are little tweaks that could be made to improve it even more.
