Hello all,

Iīve been spline and box modeling for ages now, but only recently did I catch the patch modeling bug.

Iīve got a little problem with it and I wonder if you could help me.

Whenever I collase a mesh to editable patch and start working on itīs vertexs, moving their handles around has absolutelly no effect.

In the right-click dialog, it usually says the vertexes are of the "corner" type.

Now I knowitīs possible to create soft smooth shapes through patch modeling, itīs one of the reasons why I like the models it can produce. The problem is I donīt know how.

Anyone can enlighten me?

Thanks.

Patchmodelling by hand is not very user friendly. Luckily a modifier exists that makes life easier.

Build a cage using splines, make sure all the splines form either four sided or three sided regions.

Apply the surface modifier, this generates patches automaticly.
If needed apply a relax modifier to smooth out the mesh.

While patch modelling is nice, subdivision modelling (meshsmooth) is much faster and easier in my opinion.

Thanks, Marcel, I use that method all the time(itīs my fovorite), but I thought collapsing an existing mesh into an editable patch would give me the same modeling abilities I already have when spline modeling (the process you described).

I was shocked to find I canīt tweak the handles in the collapsed-into-patch mesh because itīs vertexes are all corner-type ones.

I think what you are looking for is the render thingies.
Somewhere in the toolbar, I believe it's the last roll-out, you can set the viewport interations and render interations.
Something like that.

I totally agree with using splines instead of a mesh.
