View Full Version : Character WIP (No Spandex)
Reeks 02-13-2002, 05:56 PM Hi all,
This is a character I've been "3D doodling" with in my spare time. I've not touched him in ages while working on some other stuff, but now I'll try and get him finished up along with a couple of others (more extreme).
All suggestions and feedback welcome. (and I know the pose is dire!)

Cheers in advance,

looks very good. Excelent maps! Maybe less clean cut hair would fit better though?

Wow! This is really cool! One can see that a lot of thought went into this. The only thing that bothers me slightly is the cloak - it just seems to hang a bit too flat. But that's easy to change.
I also agree with Rabid Pitbull - maybe make his hair a bit longer or wilder.
I particularly like the belts and the pouch.
What software did you use???
I wouldn't want to run into this guy in a dark alleyway...

i have to ask. is this even 3d? because from the little brushstoke under the chin and on the neck....the brown colour overlay where the belt and breastplate meet, the copied/ rotated knee plate
( err. nevermind. seen the progress shots of this guy. it is 3d. but im guessing you still edited it in 2d )

Wehay, I love that last post -cheers Martin!
Actually, you nearly got me there. There is one brushstroke in the floor shadow where the scabbard shadow met the cape shadow. Because it's only a wip I didn't think it needed retouching but that shadow glitch was just plain confusing.
(If I'd have done retouching to the neck, I hope I'd do a much better job than that!)
The model does need a lot of tweaks; areas like the strap meeting the breastplate and the leather necklace going through the neck etc.. I'm aware of these so far, but I may have missed a few.
Shaggy hair is definitely on the agenda now.
cheers for the input so far,
Rico.

That's SUPER COOL but the head isn't too good.It kinda reduces the quality of it all.
I llike the protective gear a LOT.I wou0ld like to know where u got the bump maps for them.
Great stuff.Oh and the "morning star", I'd replace that with a sword.

Here's a different view of the head. The previous view didn't do it too much justice but I guess he needs a bit more work in that dept anyway. The hair for sure..

btw- all bumpmaps and textures on the clothing were hand painted. I tried to grab a texture off various leathers but they just never worked as I wanted them. The square patch bump on his thigh will have to go though!

Hey Rico, for the face and chest, did you just planar map a photo of a face on it? You didn't paint those yourself did you???? How did you get someone to pose with such a daft expression?
I agree with Titan - there is something Bruce Campbell-esque about him. You can just here this guy saying "Give me some sugar baby"

Hiya,
The projections were far from planar.. The skin was patched together from 5 different angles (with enough borrowed and retouched from the neck to make it a bit of a pointless excersise!)
The thing I find odd, is that I've had so many "It's that guy from Evil Dead!" comments.. yet my real life friend is a dead ringer for Jonny Depp....
I wonder what my girlfriends skin would look like on Heidi Klum?
Cheers again anyways,
:) Rico
