View Full Version : Xpresso - Getting Data Dynaically from Previous OM Objects

I am attempting a cogwheel creator in the manner of FunkyPipes and have it 80% working. The idea is to option-drag a cogwheel out of storage and drop it into the main hierarchy of the OM. The cogwheel teeth are set via user data slider which increases the radius. I use this radius to offset it from the previous cogwheel. My problem is that I need the radius of the "Previous" cogwheel to feed into the offset and this can be any radius cogwheel and be dynamically updated if I wish to change the teeth number on a Previous cogwheel. I should be able to drag and drop the cogwheels to any position in the OM and it should dynamically update according to the Previous radius' and all Next cogwheels snap to their new positions. The trick seems to be to use an Object node and Relative Reference set to Previous, but the actual cogwheel spline is inside a Null Axis and an Extrude NURBS. I need to get at this radius of the cogwheel spline from the Xpresso tag in the Next cogwheel down in the OM. I as well seem to experience a disablement of previous User Data Sliders controlling the Teeth Number and Radius. with only the bottom most cogwheel still having the ability to be updated by the sliders with all previous cogs locked to where they were set before the Next Object was dropped below it.

try PDD (previous down down)

The sliders are not responsive since you are contolling them elsewhere (the xpresso on the next cog down) - from what it sounds like -
