Gianluca Mattia has entered the Master and Servant 3D.

Challenge Page (http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/masterandservant/view_entries.php?challenger=7040)

Latest Update: Final Image: final image

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm satisfied of the work I've done so far for this challenge, the final result represents well the idea that I had in my mind since the beginning. I followed the suggestions that you gave me and I've modified the image, how you can see, especially on the room perspective. The most difficult part was finding the correct illumination because the lights worked good on the room, but they looked badly on the characters. So I had to work hard to get a good compromise for both things. Since from the concept phase I wanted to create a link between the servant and his master, from here the idea of the hands of the master that touch her servant. The servant had to have an unstable expression and not much serene, so the master behavior is finalized to reassure the slave. Besides, I wanted to represent the servant as a "grown child". His expression is innocent, he doesn't almost realize his own situation. The reptile is a second servant, much more calm and peaceful. It had to reflect a bit the character of its master.
I don't know what to say about the originality of my idea. I tried to concentrate myself on the visual scene that the theme has inspired me, and on the emotions that the facial expressions and the pose had to communicate.
I am happy I arrived at the end of the competition.

I want to make my best compliments to all the artists who have joined this challenge ... good luck to all.

special thanks: Walter, Niki, Dany, Marisa, Marco, Beppe.

The dark woman is the master, the monster to the shoulders is the faithful servant, servant of force and cruelty, to the orders of its landlady.

that of thoughts of this idea?

to me this original version without collar appeals to more, that you say?
the monster risks to lose the servant sense?

Really good concept, and also a great sketch Gianluca. It has a nice fell to it, and it's as almost the slave enjoys and does not mind being a servent. I look forward to more updates, and keep up the great work. :buttrock:

check the rules FAQ

Q: Does one of the characters in the Master and Servant relationship need to be human?
A: Yes - absolutely. One of the characters needs to be human - doesn't matter whether he/she is the master or servant.

Q: Does one of the characters in the Master and Servant relationship need to be 100% human?
A: Yes. One of the characters has to depict the globally accepted notion of the homo-sapien species.

good luck

Hey. Thats awesome riging. How did you do it. Most respect... most respect. And beautiful modellind too. And shading. Damn! Wholem stuff here is great. Only one comment. Maybe you should make the lower jaw of female character more smooth, not so... edgy. It could make her more woman like. No offence, but I didn't realise that it's a woman character, untill saw model of body. Nice work on her lips though.

always in box modeling, i have created a lot fastly the model of the reptile. they are not still sure of wanting to insert it in scene, but i feel the lack of a little monster in scene :). this is looking really nice, I liek the lighting alot. cool scene, althoug hthe perspective of background elements looks a bit strange - perhaps because the chest of draws side is lighter than the wall..

grooshka
04-21-2005, 03:32 PM
hi gianluca. that's a real nice one. lighting is just great, maybe background could be a bit darker. character poses are very expressive. you could only revise man's right hand fingers - you could make it a soft hold as if he was saying "nothing's gonna happen my lady".
everything else is cool.

re: PBlades: thanks for yuor comment, yes perhaps it is the light that illuminates more the piece of furniture that the wall.

re: grooshka: many thanks for yuor opinion, the right hand is in that position in order to create a greater sense of protection and tie with the master. The hand of the master tranquilizes that of the servant who is always nervous, this was my idea.

benn followin alittle...overall nice modleing....something about the pose of the servant is very stiff. i think the master is position very nicley looks volumous but that stiff leaning pose is urking to the eye.....same goes for the perspecrive of the wall and cabinents ..might mess with some paintovers later....but i think is distracting and odd to the eye wich is shame.....these are great characters...getting them settled and balanced with the scene will do wonders.....ill specify more later...its early for me..otherwise nice stuff...keep rollin

ciao, I have made a pair of modifications the scene:
1 fixed the perspective of camera and object.
2 mainly rilassate the positions of the character, at least i hope...
3 adding of new objects in scene
4 moved one light.

soon place a test of lighting system with texture applied to the scene. And before possible I begin to texturing the main characters

what you say of the new camera prospective?

Hey real nice modeling.Textures are looking real fine too.I think you got top 5 to 10 level work here modeling and texturing wise.

My only problem is your originality and creative side for your theme here is very dull and shows no originality, very run of the mill.I think when it comes down to you and the other top 10 dudes you may lose out because of lack of a unique entry. Is there anything you can do to create something more unique?
Anyways, still,a very nice piece of work, good luck man.

Gianluca
04-27-2005, 09:11 AM
wow many answers, many thanks, thanks all!!

not use sss but a simple one fresnel shader in the luminance channel.
the master skin shader it is formed from a color map designed in photoshop, one diffusion map, one shader fresnel in the channel of the luminance, three bump map, one obtained from the color map and others two are procedural shader noise. And finally one specular map. The shader it comes illuminated with a model of Oren-Nayar type.

In effects my concept is not more original, i did not want to make the usual monster guided from the turn "pilot" :). I have opted for a "classic idea", little innovative but more representative, i hope :)

I hope to finish in time, continued follow me, thanks all!!!

Well this really turned out well Gianluca.Nice modeling and the textures are very well done.
I just think that it's very un-original as an idea.I know you mentioned you were going for something classic. But in the instructions they mentioned this: " Artists are encouraged to think beyond traditional or conventional interpretations of the theme. Flex your imaginations and show us something original.

They also mention in the instuctions:
Be creative and imaginative
Be original. Think beyond conventional imagery.

They are not asking for "Classic" ideas!

<LI> Anyways,my point is that while you have really nice work,I think that the un-origianal idea will hurt you from getting better than a top 10 finish.Still real nice job,and I wish you luck.

Hi Gianluca, You've now got a fan club over at c4dcafe. If you ever feel like popping in for a visit. I'm sure everyone will fall over themselves to buy you cups of virtual coffee  I'm sure there would be loads of questions from the people; like me; who burnt out on ths Messie head tutorial.

Seriously, you have done wonders for the morale of Cinema users :applause: :applause:

Well, "shy bairns get nowt," as they say in my part of the world. :)

Finished up real nice.Congrats.

I still think that it's not original enough.I know you were going for classic. In the guidline tips it says:
Be creative and imaginative
Be original. Think beyond conventional imagery.

Still the work is real nice, modelin to textures.Real nice.Top 10 stuff. But if only for more originality, you coulda been top 5.Anyways,good luck, you did do a real nice piece.

grazie niki, bā gli scarafaggi possono essere di varie dimensioni, le cosidette "blatte" possono essere abbstanza grandi, e per questo molto ripugnanti.

Nice final piece. Things that I don't like are the pose of the servant and his eyes. You can have much better interaction if the servant is looking at his master. The way they are posed is not the best to show emotion (posed for a picture). Things that I like are the lighting and post FX. Nice job.
