I just can't call elderly people "old lady" or "old man". Maybe because of being so accustomed to calling all elderly people "babushka" or "dedushka" in Russian as a child, meaning "grandmother" or "grandfather" even if they were complete strangers. (my own grandparents i would never call "old lady/old man", lol :) ) Surely these people who have seen so much of the world, should only be addressed with affection and respect...

thusly, I shall call my new project, "sad grandmother" instead of "sad old lady":

This is what i have done so far. It's part of a project for Illustration class, I'm supposed to create 3 images working with emotion through use of colour... so I'm going to do images of a little girl, a young woman, and a grandmother.

And no, the photo reference I'm working from is not of my own grandmother. :) Just a photo i found online. (and immediately lost the original link for. :( )

Comments/critique would be greatly appreciated. :)

worked on her face and skin a little more...
[edit #2] replaced previous image with next, the hand is nearly done now.

i've never drawn elderly people before, figuring out how to paint the wrinkles and little age marks on her skin is really interesting. i'm reminded of being a child, and curiously comparing my own grandmother's skin and traces of age on her face, to my young skin. although this image isn't of my own grandmother, this woman is kinda beginning to remind me of her. :)

would really love some critiques or comments, or something. :(
