here i decided to make some color tuning to make the things more vivid, and in that way the objects looks more sharp...i think this is the better way...however this is my final image...and wish to mention that the challenge was quite fascinating experience, thanks to all critiques and opinions...let the best win

this going to be the elementalist outlook...she possess a flamable hair and ability to summon incarnation of the other tree elementals...thus she can withstand a lot of power upon her and do a lot of damage respectively...

...actualy she comes from a nobel clan, but because of her awful look she developed a complex, which prompted her to learn those evil skils, turning herself into a moster...and now she can't escape of this state of monstrosity although she is in doubtness about her acting against the creatures around her...but se is going to keep herself in this direction til meet the superior one...
....we all can hope this wont be long...

actualy this is the purpose of the charachter, she is the evil one, and going to be the opposite of the good looking person in the face of the tree, but i'm thinking about changing the composition view...
...perhaps i'm overdone with the bareness....

i'm trying with new composition, but may be change the view will be helpfull, this looks not close enough...

i think this will remain the composition, but i'm not decided where to put the water elemental...may be little room on the left side will be good decision..will see...i'm waiting for critiques

perhaps little change in the flamable character would bring the conception to better look...i'm still figuring out the outlook.

here is the idea...the elf with the fire must to make a cleaning in the wood because there is necessity of more room for the youngest trees...that is why the oldest ones must be removed...and here it is the elf stands before the old tree and prepear both of them for the purge...i hope there is clearness about the relationship and who is who in the situation

Your starting to have a very nice mood, very nice lighting. :)

It is an extremely beautiful concept, but take into account that in the challenge rules it is required that at least one of the characters in the picture is human. :\ So there may be problems with this concept.

cool, that's a pretty cool concept. The style if simple, but it works with your overall piece and i like the look of your elf instead of the cliche look. I know you are not finish with this, but adding details to the background and foreground would strenghten your piece. Maybe some blade of grass at the foregrounds and more fading trees at the background. i'll be checking back.

cheers,
Archie

little more work...hands to the tree, i think it needs, thus looks little bit more animated and can represent his status

This is looking nice! Excellent lighting and mood, and I like the tree a lot. I like where you're going with the elf in general, but an not sure about the pose. Holding one's self up on the feet like that is a careful balancing act, and it feels that if someone were actually in that position that you have her there, they'd fall over forward. I tried it myself and i now blame you for my bloody nose! :-) Okay, I'm kidding about the nose, but i did try to duplicate the pose, and found that to balance myslef, i needed to bring my butt further back and lower, and the knees came up a lot higher. Of course, it's not me you're painting, so your mileage may vary... But you might find it helpful to work from a live person. Get a friend to pose for you (with or without clothes on) and sketch or photograph them just to see where the body parts orient themsleves in order to stay balanced. Bodies are hard at all times, but especially a pose like this is a real balancing act (pun intended!)

Anyhow, good luck with it!

here i decided to make alive some of the others residents of the wood this would make the scene more varied... because the bipolarity of the theme must be dynamized a little bit, i think...
....waiting for critique!

Hello !

Good idea to make the other alive..
that brings more variety to your image..you should perhaps put more light on foreground in order to make it more present compared with the background.. I read walrus thread and i agree with him..The position of your character look wrong.Indeed, in this posture I will see it falling ahead. You will have perhaps to rectify it a little and to also perhaps make him pose knees with ground..
But..He's also a fantastic character, therefore he's not inevitably subjected to gravity... :)

GOOD LUCK

yeah, you right Walrus, and it is certain that i'm gonna try the pose thing right now, must find some proper person...you know, it so hard to figure out any of the mistaces made in the begining, because I used to them...may be it will be helpfull if I get off for little bit...thanks for the advice, i realy needed it...thanks

this image kicks ass! i actually like the over reaching the sprite dude is doing, it makes the momentum towards the tree. it looks like it might spring towards it and smash the fireball in its face.

maybe you should have some small roots pulling out/breaking and some leaves falling. mb make the pose a little more intentional but keep the potential.

Hello, your concept with the format cinema is sympathetic nerve, the attitude of the tree is alive, go, go for the continuation.

i think a thin tree in the back of the elf should balance the composition, and it's look like going to solve the problem with the blue back-light, because it's seam to me too active for bground color...but the truth are yet to come!

Ha, the new pose works a lot better. And I really like how you painted the tree, that's very nice.
Just a little thing though: maybe you could try to give a little more intensity to the flame the elf is holding in her hand, make it more "magical". I don't know, just a thought I had.
Excellent work in any case.

Well, I find that pose to be a lot more believable! Nice work, I think it really paid off! I'm not sure about the back arm: For one thing, it's close to being on a tangent with the rear-end. And secondly, her head and front arm seem like a side-view, but the back at the same time seems twisted around and up so that the far shoulder where that arm attaches feels a bit high.

But 'side from that, things are looking nice. I love the red in her hand, the way light would really shine through skin. And the tree guy is great, especially his face. Good work!

...actualy the servant is the tree, and the elf appears in the scene as the spirit of the wood...it seams this concept is not clear enough...perhaps I must change it...

GhostInTheMachine
04-22-2005, 03:51 PM
the pose is much better. maybe you should detail the tree a little differently, the hands and nose are cut cleanly which makes it look disney :hmm: make them knobbly and rounded - the nose can be like a burl (mb look that up) and the fingers finish sharper.
you could also put a few whispey leaves at the end on his eyebrows like an old man.

her shoulders are way too broad, mb twice whay they should be - connect the arm where the old drawing finished and make the hand longer, forearm slightly shorter. add some sparks to te flame (just a few) and give it a dense core. maybe even give the flame tiny thin hands, reaching greedily towards the tree. gl, good image

GhostInTheMachine< you are right about the nose, i was thinking the same, but i though this kind of nose would be not so descriptive...and the shoulders, i was about to chage them before consider the conception is not clear enough....i'm confused whether proseed this scene or change the conception...thnks for the advices, i shall work on it (if i keep it)
