Momo Strong has entered the Master and Servant 2D.

Latest Update: Final Image: A Child of the Dragon

Guess I made it on time. There was only one thing I added since the last update, the tear drops. And I was done!
I'm happy with the fact that I participated in this Challenge more than the actual piece. Not that I don't like the picture. But when you start looking at it too long, you start to see things that may look wrong or should have been fixed long time ago. So I'll let it gofor now, and be happy...
Thank you everyone, who gave me feedbacks. I appreciated them.

I hope my intention is clear here. The child is the Master, and the dragon is the Servant.
I would like to get the sketch as tight as possible before moving onto the next step.

Moved onto the digital drawing. Cleaned up the lines and redefined the elements in the composition, also adjusting some areas. Now it looks more organized, and that helps me to start thinking about colors and values. I think I'd want to go with a painterly look.

mooooooooooooooooooomoooo!

don't worry! there's a lot of people participating, therefore a lot of people to get to...

you will get everyone's attention when you piece starts to look more finished, you will see...

I suggest you work on the dragon's hand, and express some kind of emotion through his gesture. Right now, he looks kinda drunk.

Watch you size relationship, if that palm tree up on top of the mountain is that small, that means the dragon and the guy riding it (evernthough you're using foreshortenning) are huge. Also, compare it to the chinese temple... which object is closer to you / the camera ?

But so far so good...I'll keep checking on you... eeaay!

Thank you for your response! Thanks also for helping me with the signature stuff.

I guess I should have posted more about what is going on with the scene, huh?

This is Chinese-themed. The dragon has climbed up this super tall rock pillar thing, with a child(the Master) on top of his head. The dragon was picking some flowers(NOT palm trees) that grow on the top for the Master. But the child is evil and mischievous. He pulls the dragon's long whisker. This causes the dragon to scream in pain and drop the flower. The child has his foot just above the dragon's eye. Maybe that's why he looks drunk...
The orange things are clouds. There's a temple down below, along with other rocky mountains, a river, a waterfall in distance, and a rainbow.
So basically, the view is really looking down.

Thank you again for your suggestions. I will improve upon them. Talk to you later.

Thank you for the response.
I'm glad you liked the Chinese theme. I was gonna go with a Euro style dragon at first, but changed my mind.
I'll be working super hard on this. Stay tuned!
Hey, I checked yours too. Pretty cool idea. It's awesome to see so many different ideas and interpretations from other artists. Talk to you later.

This is the first color comp. My intention is to figure out what sort of color palette I want to use. I had made a sample of colors with markers on a piece of paper previously. This helped me to pick out a color for each element in the picture. When I went back on the computer, I just went ahead and applied those colors to see if I liked them.
Originally, I was imagining the dragon to be jade green. But when I actually tried it on, it didn't seem to pop too well. I then tried the red instead. I'm feeling better with the choice. But then again, I may change my mind.
Overall, I feel 65% satisfied with the colors, but not completely happy. I'll keep working on the colors for a while. I just really wanted to post the progress tonight before going to bed. It's just my way of pushing myself to work hard...

Anyway, it is great to see you here at cgtalk.
Thank you for your coment. That was too much.
I like your stuff and will keep my eyes on this.
Go to google and look for the yellow mountain in china, I am not sure about the name.
The mountain has great look.
Keep it up!

After running into some issues here and there, finally I'm posting the update. It took me a while...
I'm getting pretty close to the final stage. There are areas I will be working on, like the mane on the dragon, the dragon's shadow that's casted against the rocky mountain, and of course the scales. I may find other small details later as I go back to it, probably tomorrow.
One thing I struggled with was the background(sky). I have tried a few other color combinations before settling with the original color from the beginning. My attempt was to pick the color that compliments the main elements of the composition, and also to match the mood of what is happening in the picture. The orangish pinkish color here I felt fulfilled these.
GANBARUYO!!!

I just had a few things to add. It took me a while to come back and try finishing up though.
I'm pretty happy with how it looks. I'll probably submit as is. I'm gonna look at it again later on today, and decide if I still like it.
I'm glad that I tried out for the Challenge. It was such a good push for myself. It helped me realize many new things about myself as an artist...

But when you start looking at it too long, you start to see things that may look wrong or should have been fixed long time ago.

I know exactly what you mean. I can only look at thumbnails of my own entry, otherwise I get depressed. A very nice entry. You've achieved a high level of detail (dragon scales, scalloped hills) and have captured some authentic looking (to me) details (swirled clouds, dragon fur).

You might want to check your tiff image before the voting begins. The bottom 1/3 of the image was smeared, but it might be the way it loaded on my computer. If there's a problem with the image, Mibus might be able to correct it.

Good luck in the judging!
