Lookin good Zepyhri...

The demon's face is looking really good... the ice horns are rendered just right. And the girl's expresion and raised hand are spot on for the image.

I'll look forward to seeing the rest of the image worked up... Good luck getting it done... :wip:

Thanks fr all your support guys.. I've been short on the updates lately as I snapped my internet cable at home, and haven't managed to get a replacement yet! Beware the power of the humble foot... they're stronger than you realise...

spacesnail: thanks for the encouragement... this is going to cut it real fine, and I'm losing a snowleopard to get it done... I'll certainly check out Siudmak, it's not a name I'm familiar with.

Calisto: thanks Linda!

Ninja: Thank you... I'm beginning to regret my precise style... especially when work gets in the way!

Sacha: thanks to you for your support... I was about ready to admit defeat, as work and life in general have stopped me doing anything to this over the weekend, but I've been looking through other people's work, and damn it, I'm going to finish this if it kills me. You've been such a great inspiration, hun.

Thierry: thanks! I do love Painter, great for doing ice, so I find... and you must let me see your ice queen!

xric7: thank you, your piece inspired me a great deal when it came to the ice.

am7: I am indeed using painter... and I use only the oils brush, set to varying sizes and resaturations...

choptider: thank you!

dunkelgold: thanks benita, love how yours is coming on too!

kmest: thank you! Glad you like it, the seeress in particular.. the demon seems to be stealing the limelight!

MDN67: thank you

Paul: thanks again...

Louis: Thanks! I swear I'll learn seamstressing one of these days and make some dresses!

mosconariz: thanks, and don't tell anyone, but I'm doing it completely off the top of my head... its more thanks to Painter's groovy blending than any knowledge... *grin*

Blackeri: thanks Marta, I've admired your paintings for a long time, so that's put a big grin on my face

duddlebug; thanks jonny, and getting it done is going to be a real push... *sweat*

Arc80: Hey Archie, aw, thanks, you're too kind... don't say stuff like that though.. I might not finish!

NOOB: yup, just for you... and I will go on! (maybe not finish, but certainly go on...)

And for Manu and Sacha, thanks guys, your encouragement has really picked me up.. I WILL finish!

mosconariz
05-16-2005, 01:52 PM
I WILL finish!

That's the attitud! :applause: You will... we have still 72 hours! and you don't have to loose 30 hours in rendering! :banghead:

God bless 2D :D

An overdue update finally! I've been working on whatever took my fancy, an arm here, a leopard there... it's getting there, but I think I'll have to drop that second cat to get it done in time. I guess it was kind of superfluous to requirements anyhow, the seeress would only need one guide cat really! So I'll have to repaint the foreground to recreate that frame the second cat provided to the demon. Still have the demon's lower torso, the bottom of the dress and tightening up the staff to finish, then obviously the background and tweaking lighting effects. So... not much then... *sweatdrop*

Teemur: thanks!

Arc80:Thanks Archie! I'm overcome with the support, you guys are great! *gush gush*

Wow. I hope you aren't offended, but at the first blush of seeing this I was reminded of Diablo II - not that you've copied anything, but that you've captured that icy cavernous feeling (not location) of one of my least favorite levels so beautifully. She also has a very twisted Snow Queen quality about her, and I love the snow leopard. I know what you mean about cutting back the concept, but I think that even if you have to shave some of the original ideas (and taht spider is phenomenal), you're going to come out with a very powerful piece.

And I agree: your drawing skills are envy making.
Best of luck with the Challenge,
Adri Sakamoto

Very nice. Although, if the tip of the staff is supposed to be a source of light, I'd suggest putting a bit of haze around it, like when you see a streetlight in the fog, to add to the effect.

I really, really didn't want to post this, and I got precisely two hours sleep last night and the night before trying to avoid this, but I think I knew in my heart that I still had too much to do. Work's been hectic lately too, which hasn't helped. So, it's with much regret that I have to say I'm not going to meet the deadline...

I really feel like I've let you guys down, cause you've been so supportive, and I really really wanted to finish in time, but,on the lighter side, I've learned so much and met so many fantastic people... so next challenge, I'll be able to plan my time better, get my concept down faster and wow you all. I will still finish this, it's about 90% finished, but I didn't want to rush through what I had left and have a marked difference in quality of work through the piece. I'll post the finished article in the 2D gallery in the next couple of days. So once again, thank you guys, and I can't wait to see the results of this challenge. Good luck to all of you who have finished! And bring on the next challenge... *evil laugh*

Special thanks to Sacha, Virtuoso, Manu, Archie, Arkinet, Nata, NOOB, Calisto... all you guys have been a real inspiration... apologies if I forgot anyone, my brain won't function right now... I have to get some sleep... Much love to you all...

Sorry to have disappointed everyone... though I would say, that though I'm peeved not to have finished in time, I've really surprised myself as to what I'm able to do. If you'd have showed me this image and said I'd produced it just six to ten months ago, I'd have told you you were nuts. So even though it's not challenge material, I believe it is, simply put, my best piece to date.

Here's some closeups of where I'm at now, but expect this in the 2D gallery shortly.

Sam, my dear friend

i'm terribly sorry to read that there wasn't enough time to achieve and send your magnificent picture. Even if it's not finally presented in this contest, you still have tried to surpass yourself... and that is one the purposes of this community ! I read in one of your previous that this is the best work you've done... May I think this is some kind of reward ? I guess you could propose your picture for Exposé...

I hope the tons of encouragement i sent didn't squeeze you to the ground, making you unable to go on :D

So I hope to see you on the nest challenge, stay in touch, exchange ideas...

A très bientôt Mademoiselle Zeph

As soon as I recovered and was capable of browsing around the net again I tried to go around the threads that I so loved following to read through their much greater success stories than mine and to see their finalised images...

And with great suspence I had just jumped to yours to find out that you had such a big heart that you showed mercy to less fortunate ones in talents and skills to compair and thought you would give them a chance to win.
I have no other explanation that satisfies the pain of thinking of a competition without an entry as impressive as yours decorating it.

Sam, your image has grown to be a definatey breath taking image!
I know that there are a lot of entries with a lot of details just like yours.. but each detail of it living a story and a hard to accomplish depiction such as yours is a unique difficulty on it's own. I know students in academies spending weeks to paint one single ice cube... and some many more to paint in fur as you have..
Every detail you have shown demands that I look at them in disbelief.

Your work is OUTSTANDING and deserves much more than the compliments granted.
I am just one of the many little guys that have kneeled in envy to your latest work.. I so hope that it is a reward to some level for you.

I am so looking forward to see a completed verion of it. It is too impressive to be able to turn a back onto.

Hi there guys, just to let you know that I'm currently finishing the piece to the standard I wanted to, and I'll post my updates in the WIP gallery soon. I did consider posting it in anyway, even a trifle unfinished, but I couldn't stand the thought of a judge looking it over and saying "hey, the figures and demon are well done, but the background looks rushed."

Spacesnail: That was my main goal in entering the challenge, I don't believe I would have won anything anyhow, but that's elementary as I've achieved what I set out to do, which was create something digitally with as little reference as possible that I could be proud of. And of course your encouragement didn't weigh me down! Quite the opposite, my friend! And likewise, I'll be eager to see how the next challenge unfolds.

Black: you're much too kind, m'dear. I feel quite the opposite, like a kid with crayons in a gallery of great masters! I still have much to learn, and this is the best place for me to do it, there is such an amazingly high standard in this community, it's like a great pool of inspiration whereever I look. And your own work is at least on a par with my own, so I certainly include you in that statement. I entered this challenge hoping to improve my work, nothing more, so though I'm disappointed I didn't finish, that was never my ultimate goal, getting better was, and I've done that beyond my own expectations. All thanks to you guys.

Archie: hey! I've been offline a lot lately, which is why the sudden silence... but I'll certainly put up a wallpaper version for you when it's finished! And I can't wait for the next challenge, I'm really looking forward to leaping head on into the mix with all these great people again. Darn it, this place is addictive!

Mosconariz: I'll be posting there once I've got it just about finished!

Hallo Sam, my darling, I just wanted to drop by and say that I'm enormously happy to have met you on this challenge and thank you for those all purely kind words you have left on my thread! *^______^*
I must admit that your work here was amazing and full of emotion and perhaps even magic, I love it, and hope to see it finished as soon as possible. :bounce:
And by the way I visited your page on Deviant - it's actually funny how alike we are, without mentioning that I also have a younger fair-haired sister who is more of a gothic person :D
And am I allowed to ask for a wallpaper of your M&S work with your autograph as well? Pleeeeaaase!
