k, this is sort of a stupid question, sorry, but if i do a search on this forum for 'render time' you can imagine i get quite a few unrelated results :) . i just want to know if maya has a clock somewhere that keeps track of rendertimes, i'm on mac osx, and i don't have the 'output window' it all just shows up in the script editor, i've also checked the console log, and it doesn't seem to be in either place. i'm rendering with mental ray, and i've tried rendering with each different level or 'message verbosity' but no render times. do people just keep a stop watch by their computer? anyway, if someone knows i'd appreciate it, thanks a lot.

p.s. all that cool stuff like final gather radius and number of photons used that people check in the output window or console log (can't remember which) i can't find that stuff either...so...ya, thanks again.

i've just tested this in maya6 on my pc at work, and it works just fine, the output window displays the percentage of rendering completed in real time, the final gather statistics, and the wallclock, actual time taken to render. so.........since i don't have an output window on the mac version, am i just screwed? is there any other way to get that info? is it possible that i accidentally turned off the output window? any other mac users who do have an output window?...so confused, please help, thanks a lot.

well, now that i sort of know what's wrong (lack of output window) i was able to refine my searching a little bit, and it seems the info should be showing up in the console...i thought i'd checked this, but maybe i had the verbosity wrong, and since i'm at work i can't check it right now...but i'll just assume that's what i need to know, sorry for the posting, but it really did help me figure this out. thanks anyway

If you work this out, please let us know. This is something I've been wondering too. I am also away from my mac and can't check for a while.

when i got home last night i gave this a try, in mental ray render globals translation rollout set the 'export verbosity' to progress messages, then once you've started rendering (or before, whichever) go to your applications/utilities then open the console. this should be displaying the percentage completed and all kinds of stats on the scene and final gather/photon data. i tried all this before and it didn't work, so i must have just not put them all together, cuz it worked fine last night, and it's really great to have all that info and the percentage complete too. so just make sure the export verbosity is set to 'progress messages' and open up the console and hit render and that should do it. hope it works for you too.
