View Full Version : Knight's journey: please crit composition!
paperclip 03-29-2005, 03:46 PM Well, here's a knight off on a journey, this is a quickie, I wanted my composition criticised before I went any further-- I rather like this one but I don't want to overdevelop it if it's no good!

The composition is looking good to me. You should probably have something else in the background though, like some big dark trees, or a cloudy landscape. You were probably planning to put more back there anyway though, huh? I say keep working on it. The colors are really working. Oh and you may want to keep an eye on the knight's posture he sort of looks like he's getting ready to fall over forward.

yea, the knight looks a little off balance. Other than that you either need to include more in the pic or get in closser to the knight. He's too small to be on a big canvas by himself. My eyes go strait to him, briefly to the tree on the right, and then right back to him.
It may help if you include something very close in the forground on the bottom left corner, and a few indications of objects off in the distance. Mabie some soft mountains. Then i will look at him, the tree on the right, the object in the forground, the objects in the background, and then back to him again.
The "object" in the bottom left doesnt need to be a tree or catapult or anything. Mabie just a patch of dirt in the grassy field. Just "activate" that area with something busy so the eye wants to read it.

Hey, hadn't seen this one yet.
I agree with the afore posters. I would add some sky to the background though. It could use more depth, especially since he's on a journey. At the same tmie something in the foreground would help a lot. You're getting a lot better I tell you!
