Shin Tsuki 03-29-2005, 12:09 PM I think I'm just about done with this one. I'm looking at final color adjustments.

Does anyone have any advice as goes color and value(it's kinda too late at this point to mess with the linework... )?

Yaaaa, the character looks pretty impressive. The background doesn't fit at all (in my opinion). I think if it was brighter or towards white the character design would be more obvious. Excellent work! How long did it take?

alright, I'll mess with the background, and see what I can do. How long? Hmm. Hard to say, since I wasn't paying much attention and worked on it off and on for quite awhile. I'd say The drawing took probably around four hours, from pencil to pen. The color was stretched out over a couple of weeks, but I only worked on it for (a generous estimation here) 8 hours maybe. It seems like a long time to work on something like this, but I'm still getting used to the change from marker work to digital. Hopefully I'll finish the next one much sooner.

Ok here's two different backgrounds. The first image is with the background lightened up just a bit (but not too much) and the second is with just a plain white ground.

Now I think it does look pretty cool against white, and as this is essentially just a character design, there isn't really much need for a background. That being said, I'd like it if this could stand alone as a graphic image, So I'd prefer a background. So what do you think? Should it be closer to the white still, or should the background be changed to something else completely? Or should I give up on the background and not worry about it?
Hmmm I think they both look better than the original. I don't want to be a pain in the a$$ but maybe the old background is unfit background because of its graininess, which catches the eye. I think from now on it's just a matter of taste, I like the white one better than the original, but there is too much contrast there, so I'd go for the left one now, but without the graininess. Great job again :)

Ooooohhh yeeaaah... That is a pretty big texture difference, isn't it? thanks a bunch for pointing that out. I guess I'll just blur the heck out of it and put it back up for last crits before I move it to the finished work section. And thanks for the encouragement too, I appreciate it.
