allain skywalker 03-29-2005, 06:31 AM Can someone help me about alpha channel? How can I use it in making maps in photoshop? is it somehow the same as mask or transparency map? do you have any website tutorials pertaining to alpha channel usage. Im new to 3d please help a blind man.

yes the alpha channel is the same thing as the transperency.
you can create an image in photoshop, define its visible edges through making a black and white alpha channel and in maya it should plugg this info automaticaly ti the transperency(or you do it manualy)
other way round you can render an object that comes with an alpha channels by turning this option on in the render globals
you will find all this info in the maya manual/help
