CGTalk - Max 5 hates me

OK this app has a vendetta against me. For some ungodly reason the verts on my models will NOT disappear!! Even when NO sub-objects are selected. The friggin verts are constantly there and I can't get a decent preview of my model. What is this crap?!?

try on the object
properties.../display properties/vertex ticks
