Hello gang,
Trying really hard to make time to get some work done on my entry. I'm building up color and trying different skin colors, light sources, and having a great time! Not to crazy about skin colors yet, maybe I'll try something different and make the girl in magenta tones or green, let's what I come up with.

After trying a few things, then browsing the 2D challenge and finding that someone was working on the same concept, I narrowed it down to this.
The witch controlling her pet dragon fighting the wizard...wish me luck! Lot of great entries so far.

Moved a couple of elements around and added some more detail, made the glass sphere bigger. Got to get good reference for wrinkly old hands

Hey,there!!!Nice start, but maybe try to rework a bit your composition. There's breath missing I find.Maybe it could be cool to open up more your image to the high and see the hair of this old guy flying up,like he's using a lot of energy or something like that.
Just n little sugeestion ofcourse ;-)
keep m coming!!!Good luck and fun 2 U!!!

This sketch is more for setting the mood. The colors will definitely change, but the intensity of the scene I think it's there.

this is going to be great... there's a lot of sthregtn in the image already, I like it... maybe I would change the wizard's pose, it looked better in your previous sketches imo...

I didn't enter this challenge (lots of work at the univ), but I'll try to enter the next one, have a lot of fun you all!

Hey,

Just to let you know...you are so good at the preliminaries. Your thumbnails and sketches have a very vivid vibe to them. Becareful not to lose that feeling. For example, in your preliminary sketch phase you point was better put w/ the human pointing towards the head of the dragon. You focal point is easier shown and it leads the eye better. Your final went away from that. Don't lose that initial idea you get w/ your instincts.

Great work, and i'm sure it's going to be great when finished.

Still sketching. I'm trying as much as I can to start coloring by next weekend. Thanks for all your feedback, as always, is very much appreciated.

elmasfeo - Si señor, I'm trying not to loose that tension/motion on the wizards pose in the first rough...

Asif - Thanks for pointing that out. I will change angle of the arm so it makes more sense.

In this sketch, I was thinking...hm, I have noticed that usually the depiction of wizards is when they're old and wise so I decided to depict mine younger 40ish. What you all think?? Also I'm including a victim to the scene...still working on a pose. I'll post that sketch shortly.

She would be in from of the wizard chained to a stump...of course wearing a very Vallejoesque outfit.

Things are getting HOT, and I mean color. I have been swamped but I am determined to finish this Challenge. Here's where I am so far. Hope I keep on having productive breaks like this. Everyone is doing such a great job! As always input is greatly appreciated. :)

Great colors! Good to see something a bit more abstract in design!

Hope she looks scarry enough with the electric eyes and the drull down her chin. Classy girl huh? I'm having a whole bunch of fun today!

Since most of the outer colors will be warm colors, I thought making the opposing colors on the cool range of the spectrum would be a nice contrast and add visual interest. I might go back and play with it a bit more. I need to see through it.

This is the piece of the puzzle that is missing. These two will be inside the magical blue shield which by the way still a work in progress. The stump will be a tree stump all burned up and old.
I'm going to keep track of the progress on these two and post a step by step. I'm still debating if the wizard should holding a staff of some other sort of magical thingy. Originally I had him holding a sphere, hmm.

This quick LowRes composite of revisions will give you a better idea of where I'm going. I've a added a myst coming out of the witches mouth that wraps aound the crystal ball. Also I will be moving the face away from the hand. Not still sure if I should try to ad a background or if to fade it to dark. Any thoughts?
