I agree the first picture looks really great almost photorealistic, but I must agree with the previous comment the bugs 'feet' and possibly the legs don't look as realistic, perhaps its in the texture or the specularity of the material.

How did you create the depth of field effect? Looks really nice, what do you mean you didnt know better about using the scanline renderer until you got Max 5 ?

i also cant see wy, but the legs... i don't know...

looks great, looks very real, but one thing:
i thinks the legs are to long for so a "belly" bug, the legs should more smaller and more thick.

i did use a reference photo and there it had that long legs so i dont think they are wrong?!?!
