So here's my Final Image. Added some last minute details. Hope you like it. Thank you all for your support so far, and good luck everybody!

And I edited my story. Here's the final story.

THE GIFT

Jullazar was always so curious about the snow. She used to listen to the stories with a great excitement about the winter and snowing that visitors tell who come from northern lands to his father's palace. She used feel so sorry for herself thinking she will never, ever be able to see the snow because the winter wasn't a season that is given to their land. On her 16th birthday his father, who is a great great wizard, invited her to his room and, "My dear Jullazar, what can I offer you as a birthday present?" he said.

-Ah! You can send me on a journey to the beautiful north countries, Father!
-North? he said curiously.
-Yes!
-Oh, unfortunately this is a gift that I most certainly cannot give, Jullazar. Do you think I am that irresponsible to let my little daughter go to a dangerous journey ?
-Jabbar will come with me! He will protect me!
-Please, do not insist on that, child.
-But..
-I'm afraid this is not an arguable matter.
-But, Father..
-I won't permit you, Jullazar! he said strongly.
-Then I'll never be able to see the snow in my whole life! she yelled and went to her room crying.

As she went, her father murmured "the snow?".

In the evening, Jullazar was still so angry. Why he wouldn't let her go? It was her birthday and she was so--

But what was that? Little white drops were shining and dissappearing in front of her window. She couldn't believe her eyes! It was snowing!

She ran to the courtyard. In the courtyard Jabbar, which is her previous birthday gift, was waiting for her with an umbrella.

"Your father wishes you a long and happy life my precious mistress", Jabbar said.

Jullazar let the snow drops chill her skin by reaching her hand for the sky and started to think what could she want as her next birthday gift from her father as she was smiling.

Hamam concept sketch.

Hey everyone.

This is my first challenge. First of all, I wish good luck to all fellow artists. I came up with few sketches still not sure about the concept, but my idea is drawing servant djinns and their mistress in an orientalist atmosphere. That's is for now.

Cheers

hi kerem , (guzel entry!)

I like the second sketch a lot but she doesnt look like a master in that one , she looks too submissive. A more strong pose would give the idea of master better.

Bol sans!

03-28-2005, 04:08 AM
Hmm I didn't want to draw a ruthless master, but I guess you're right about pose:) I usually don't give any attention to poses first. I just concentrate on concept... Well, actually I'm not sure about this concept, I just have to try different ideas. Thanks for the feedback bro. (Baba, bunlar ısınma turları, çok daha sağlam fikirler var kafamda.)

hi, good concept, i prefer the first sketch, but is only my opinion, the composition of this first is more homogene, good work i wait the suite:thumbsup:

kerembeyit
03-28-2005, 05:04 PM
I like the first one too:) Still, I have to search for alternatives. Maybe I should draw a concept with ruthless sheikh instead of mistress... Well let's wait and see. Thanks for the feedback.

I think that the first one "hamam 3" seems to be best as for the composition.. The concept of "hamam" in the "master and servant" subject is appropriate and i strongly believe that you'll come up with something great(as usual).

Sheikh Concept Sketch 01

New concept. A ruthless sheikh and his female djinn. I think the idea of the "mistress and his big ass servant djinn" is very Royo like and a cliché.

So I had to come up with something more original than that. So here's the new concept, let me know what you think, I am still undecided on which concept to go with:)

Silveraxe
03-28-2005, 09:45 PM
i still prefer the hamam 3 sketch... if the symmetry bothers you, maybe one of the guards (or whatever it is :D ) could be bending down and, i dunno maybe offering some fruits? or something like that...

the new sketch looks a little empty, there's a lot of space there, maybe you can zoom-in a little? also all the three characters there are on the same line. maybe put the panther a little towards the audience...

but like i said, hamam 3 looks more promising... thats my opinion at least

Silveraxe, I don't like the placement either:) Besides I'm not happy with the sheik's pose. As for the empty space, I noticed that too and I will place some stuff and play with the sheik's pose and we will see:)

Silveraxe
03-28-2005, 10:00 PM
btw, if you change your angle, that could add a lot of depth as well... not re-draw the whole thing but maybe you can play with the perspective in Photoshop or somethin...

I guess I finally decided my concept. I liked the sheikh concept but there was a lack of fantasy problem with them, so this one is better, and I will probably go with this.

And here's my progress so far. Changed the big guy's head, added more detail on the girl. Looking a little bit odd without snow effect I know. God... I've got a lot of work to do:)

Here's my to-do list:

1.overall moonlight effect.
2.fog (atmosphere) on the distant environment.
3.overall ambient lighting.
4.Overall cast shadows and strengten those core shadows.
5.More details on the characters.
6.Yellow bounce light from behind, artificial light sources on the towers.
7.Some titles on the big guy.
8.Overall cleaning.
10.Of course, the snow effect at last.
11.And go to sleep...

I hope I didn't forget something. If I did please let me know:) And I will submit my little story soon, and this painting will make more sense with the story. But first thing is first, I have to make sure my painting is working and stand out by itself without a background story, Suggestions are most welcome!

GGRREAAT concept you've got going here! :) I love you'r style! Have you thought about adding a moon or stars to the background sky? And how about having the master carrying a lantern giving of a nice warm contrast to you'r blue cold hues?

Thank you people:)

am7, a star field would be great but, I have to make a snow effect, I guess stars and snow wouldn't work together:) Same problem with the moon. But there will be an overall moonlight effect. As for the lantern, I thought about that when I'm sketching but, there will be lots of artificial yellow bounce light and I don't want to overdo it, besides having the master carrying something is a little bit against the theme. But, maybe I should change her right arm... it doesn't look right. Check out my last concept sketch, it's a speed paint but my final painting will look like it. Thank you for your advices.

Lovely work kerembeyit, I'm always inspired by your paintings.

How about a bit more contrast on certain areas of the figures? Like the umbrella holding giant's pants? Or under and around his belt area? Same goes for the woman.

I know the lighting and mood is misty and diffused, but I think a bit more contrast is needed to make the figures pop into the foreground, letting the background environment get more misty, blue, and diffused as is recedes away from the camera.

Great job!

Moonlit Matt, thanks bro. Of course there will be a nice contrast on the figures when I finish with these cast and core shadows. It's in my to-do list:) Figures will be more darker on the certain areas. Still needs lots of work...

Its coming along nicely, love the sky and the big guy's expression. However, watch the masters facial expression, its looking a little flat and ...well...not right. But its early days yet so i'm sure you'll sort it out.

And finally I added the snow... So here\'s my progress so far. Still needs some work. I am not sure about the down-left lantern, should I turn it on or not? When I turned on the lantern there will be so much artificial light on the piece and I don\'t want that effect, but still I am not sure:) Let me know what you think.

I\'ll submit the close-ups when I finish with the little details.

Really cool image. I dig the texture on the servant gives it more of a realistic feel, maybe the lantern could be cool but it might become a focal point and take some of the effect of the characters.

Good luck

Almost done. Still needs some little touch-ups here and there but I achieved the overall mood that I wanted. I made some little color adjustment, fixed her arm. and here it is. I'll submit the little story with Final Coloring milestone.

This one is awesome! U did it in a very short time I see. I esepcially love the depth of the pic, sharpen details on the right places and such a soft light that makes everythink very realistic although that the characters r not realistic beings. Man, I must to congratulation on this one! Fantastic image! Going to my private collection on hard disk :)

Awww, I really like this one! The girl, and the servant, and the snow, and the mood, and the umbrella... everything's so nice and peaceful. Maybe you could try to accentuate a little the orange light on the servant, make it a little more vivid and bright. Just a thought. In any case, great job! :)

So, Here's my final coloring. I hope you like it. I am still open to any suggestions though. (If they're not too major.) Well, it has been a great challenge. Thank you all for your support so far, and good luck everybody!

And here's my little theme story. Since my English sucks, I am open to any suggestions on the story too. If your suggestions make the story better, stronger and more interesting I would gladly add them. And I still couldn't find a title for my piece, so please help me out:) I am thinking about "Birthday Gift" but it's too boring I guess. I need a dramatic title. Well, here we go...

Respect to almighty Kerem Beyit...

Hoca 1 - 2 title önerisinde bulunuyim bari:

* Gülizar'in yaşadığı hayal kırıklığının ardından böyle bir hediye almasından dolayi:

unexpected gift .

* Herkesin babasi kar yağdıramadığı için de , hehe :)

extraordinary gift .

Belki sadece The Gift falan desen , hımm bilmiyorum sanırım isim bulmak daha zor iş :)

Hi Kerem!
now this is a real sweet and innocent story, love the new aspect, and the characters simply rock. Keep up your wonderfull work! just a small sugestion, maybe bring in a bit more variatoin into the snowflakes, some of them a bit flatter, aome of them a bit smaller but the same oppacity, just a bit of randomisation to let it look less like "raining stars"...
keep it up!

05-13-2005, 04:26 PM
I'm in love with this picture Kerem. It's magical! I do agree with the1st_angel though. The snow seems to be on one 'plane', maybe give it some depth somehow... at the moment it looks like it's snowing in front of the characters. Gorgeous! :)

kerembeyit
05-13-2005, 04:48 PM
Virtuoso, thanks mate:)

Silveraxe, she has an oriental belly:) But I'll try to make it thinner and see what happens. Thanks!

the1st_angel, thanks a lot mate:) snowflakes... They're killing me! I used 3 planes (foreground, midground and background) and took care of each and every one of them (Haha, I am exaggerating!) but still needs work. They're not in the same opacity though,

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v241/ebrehe/snowflake.jpg

But somehow, looks like midground level is missing. Alright, I'll add one more layer in %30-40 opacity and see what happens. But I don't wanna ruin the blue night.

Poshspice, thank you very much, I am glad you like it the final piece. But I guess it's not "final" anymore:) I'll go and take care of those snowflakes.

Well, any suggestion on the title? I really need a dramatic title.

Added one more low-opacity snowflakes layer. I think it's pretty ok now. Maybe I should have add more but I don^t want to achieve snow storm effect:) I just want to calm and cool snowing effect so that's enough for me. Fixed her belly also. It's time to wrap it up:)

I still need suggestions on the title. If nothing's come up, I'll go with "The Gift". What do you think?
