I didnt see any one tried Layered Shader with misss shaders of mentalray.

I think I am not wrong .misss fast shaders dont work with layered shaders.

all shaders of layers hasno their own SGs (shading groups) all are single ....LayeredSG.......

Use mix8layer. It's pimp. (though I dont know yet what this exactly means)

pimp (in a positive connotation)::
gratify someone's desires;
cater to someone's wishes;
exploit the weaknesses of another shader;
work better and faster than layered shader;
