This looks mighty interesting. But I fail to see the connection to any sports. This must just be the environment (or?). I really like the lamp you made.

Virtuoso
09-27-2002, 11:24 AM
Hi Mikael, and everyone else..............I'll take the time now to explain a little without giving away too much..........

All that I am creating for this Challenge will be part of a "MUCH BIGGER" package, this all will be part of a great Realm or World I have created...........There will be a extremly twisted sport involved with many props and devices, to go with a vast environment...............Plus there will be "PRIZES" for the greatest of the contestants within my twisted sports events, what you have seen thus far is just one of the prizes for my twisted sports contestants, Hoss boulderbreakers vessel, much more of it will be un-veiled in the days ahead.............characters too are and will be part of this challenge. What you have seen thus far is just a small piece of what I have planned for this challenge.

All that I am creating is coming from a novel............My novel......I have written a Sci-fi/fantasy novel of 1800+ pages off and on for the past 3 years, it has been accepted by the #1 Sci fi/fantasy publisher, the first part of over 900 pages will be coming in Spring of 2003, the second to follow will be coming in 2004............

I am recreating my World from my novel in full 3D, props, environments, characters, etc,etc... for another possible project in the near future...............

I am working in collaboration with my Brother (the other Virtuoso)hence the "VIRTUOSO Bros LOGO", on this CG project. This months challenge was a perfect time for me to get in on the fun with all of you and at the same time create more of my World for my main private project. Two birds with one stone.............

I will be showing tons more constantly, as we are doing this full-time and there are two of us, you can expect quite a bit................Anyways, time to go for now, I'll be posting from my site soon, so hi rez versions will be possible real soon........See you soon......... :)

Aearon
09-27-2002, 01:03 PM
wow, i guess we'll just have to wait and see then eh ?

you just tell us about your sci-fi novel as if it was something quite normal to be accepted by the #1 publisher, i'm quite impressed and i will sure as hell buy that book when it comes out

as for the connected cg project: this looks far more than just promising, i hope you really keep going 24/7 and show us something new every day :D

MikaelPersson
09-27-2002, 03:17 PM
wow. This sounds like something to look out for. Will buy the book when it hits the streets.
This idea of creating a whole world both in novel and then 3D is new to me. I like it. I wish you both good luck.

wow, this looks really BIG! and I see very great possibilities in this project you're talking about! and please give us some hints of what that book is about :)

some crits,
- looks like you use to much ambient light in your renders which wash them out..
- the drinking fountain(btw, are there bear or water coming from there to the pirates? ;) ) needs softer edges on some places(I guess you know where)

I demand bigger picture on those "sharks" I can't see much! (maybe that's your thought to not show them completely yet as it might reveal to much? :) )

I really dig your drawing style to, very good!

more please :)
take care

Back for another update....................but before I peel off more of the cover I'll show you some more of what's under the cover in seperate shots..............the 50K limit really does take a bite out of these shots, but that's the way it is I suppose ( do I hear 60K's)........My site will be up soon and then I'll at least give you all an option to view some high Rez shots............:)

By the way remember this is just more of "Hoss Boulderbreaker's vessel" one of the prizes in the Extreme sports event I have planned..............More of the event and all it consists of is coming real soon.....................

Here is another shot of the front part of the vessel......

everything..

Virtuoso
09-28-2002, 07:43 PM
OZ ............Thankyou for the very kind words.....Coming from you a true top notch artist they mean very much............Tesla,Davinchi,and Jules Verne, all hero's of mine as well. Thanks for the kind words.........:)

Jeffo..............Thanks...........as for Polys, to Hell with them, toooooo many years having to count them, now with the new power of today and tomorrow I say I slap them and send them to Hell, the more the merrier, no poly limits, I say sweet times, I just love to beat up polys, it's my sweet revenge for all the poly limits of the past. :D ..............Also thankyou for the kind words, I am a real madman when it comes to intricate details, this is all just the beginning.....Yes I have 1 character in the final stages, and another two in the works, I will un-veil them soon as well......Thanks again, and by the way, your character is coming along great..........

Fellah...........Yes this is a prize for one of the winning contestants, but there is another, even a sweeter one coming, stick around,I'll be showing it soon........Sharkfighting....well you continue your streak of being right,but...............shark fighting is just a part of the overall event, much more involving with some great twists are coming.....And yes many images, but what can one do,I have sooooo many things to show, many angles as well, I'll try to limit them as much as possible though in consideration to others.......As for the twist on the propellers, no problem, that is just WIP'S of the gigantic Dual steam engines, I have already improved them to the proper look, along with adding a few more details to them, I'll show that later as well, along with tons more, I'll see you around ..................:)

Mandrake................The man on the beautiful Adriatic (Lucky man)............And I thought Malibu was nice........If you think this is huge, well, it's not, it's just a prop within the overall scene,a small piece for overall depth and extra visual enchancements..This huge vessel will be dwarfed in the overall scene once completed..........Yes V-Ray and Brazil will be working overtime for me with all the renders I have planned .see you soon, and I think you should join the challenge, that would be a real reward for everyone............see you soon I hope......

More updates right around the corner...............

Lorenzo
09-28-2002, 09:24 PM
so many details that's very nice,
what do you use for the reflexion on the metal, raytrace or some GI rendering for making looks better.
watever I design machines^every days, and that's looking great.
:wip:  :applause:

Apt Pupil
09-29-2002, 12:51 PM
Now that's . . . . really ImPrEsSiVe!! It has the look and the feel of a festival or carnival of sorts. I have just got to see this huge task finished. The details are very well done.

Comments so far though:
- Just a tad repetative. A mix between solids(solid walls or encasements of sorts) and bars would perhaps break this up.
- Everything looks a bit too even. I am not sure what it is constructed with, but it looks contructed out of bamboo sticks, If it is, then some could be thicker and some could be thinner just to break up the cloning feel it has now.

But these are just minor details for it is really looking good so far. Gosh, this is going to be so cool. Keep up the great work !! I await more . ..

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 01:23 PM
Lorenzo......Thanks for the kind thoughts. I use V-Ray and Brazil. And mix and twist materials to the ends of the Worlds for many different looks, this vessel is still being textured, it's still just a WIP.......Thanks again for your kind words........:)

Apt Pupil..............Great to hear from you........Actually this vessel "Hoss Boulderbreaker's vessel" has been done piece by piece intentionally to keep away from the machine shop look. Yes it is bamboo, but un-textured as of now. The bamboo too has been individually sized too from the knots to the scaling in all directions. It is hard to see with the small shots ( Got to hate the 50KB limit}.........I'll be posting links to large renders soon....

Once seen all in one shot you will see that there is quite a bit of non-repetitive work, lots of seperate curves and original areas throughout.4 Levels on this vessel plus many more intricate parts still lay under that cover.........;)

This vessel is really just a prop (A very expensive Poly wise prop), a prize for the contestants, one of the prizes, more to come.

Thanks very much for any advice and thoughts, I do appreaciate them. The World this vessel will sit in is also under construction and will dwarf the vessel once done...........

Now for a bit more of the un-veiling.............More detailed shots of the wings and the most important parts of the vessel coming tomorrow..............plus another prize to be un-veiled and the first of the charcater's perhaps.....;)

Aearon
09-29-2002, 02:56 PM
great stuff virtuoso !! and this is just a little part of the whole idea.. wow :D

just one crit, something about the wings doesn't seem right
i think it's the holes in the fabric, they are way too huge, being part of that HUGE flying machine, they make the wings look like they should be part of a much smaller vessel

imo a lot more tiny holes with ropes on them would be better and convey the huge size of that thing

not really a crit...but it immediately caught my attention

Necro
09-29-2002, 04:09 PM
Wow.. great work man.. I realy enjoy your designs and ideas KEEP GOING !!

nevertheless, I might be wrong but I didn't see any credit to Joe Madueira who drew that cool looking pirate (for Trilunar's never-to-be-finsihed game I belive)
so if you are Madueira.. I'm sorry!
but if not.. plz credit or people would think you drew that (I wish I could draw like that).
and if you did give credit.. I'M SORRY :(

again... realy great work. I dig!

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 08:16 PM
Fist..................thanks..............And I'll show some more close-ups of the wings and the attachements, the holes are created at 6 inches a piece intentionally, with the attachments/rings slipping through, the attachments/rings required a little extra size for that extra support needed for the large size. Thus the holes are quite large due to this, the holes had to be made with this size so that the attachments could fit through, the attachments extra size required the holes to be made larger. Closer looks coming..................thanks for looking out for me..........

Necro.............Thanks for the nice compliment.........And yes of course I give credit to Joe Madueira, one of the best, one of my inspirations along with Rodney Matthews,Frazzetta,Brom, just to name a few...........The concepts shown will be starting points of 3D models or models based on those concepts coming soon, a Pirate or half pirate half Dwarf look such as that will be great in 3D.

I am glad you dig what you have seen too, I am getting ready to show some more finished looks and extras for the vessel, plus many more models and set pieces for the overall scene of the Extreme Sport............Stay tooned and thanks...... :)

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 11:36 PM
................Another update................A new angle, it is quite difficult to show off the size and true look of this vessel with the 50KB limit, but try I will...........;)

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 11:38 PM
And another closer view..........

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 11:40 PM
Here is a look at the Pilots house of Hoss Boulderbreaker's vessel......and a bit of the top floor of the back end................:)

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 11:42 PM
And a little closer...............I just wish all the clarity was not lost due to the 50KB limit............

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 11:43 PM
And another closer look.............:)

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 11:45 PM
OK, remember these are WIP's..........I'll try to post more angles soon as well. here is a couple shots of the "Rudders" in the back of the vessel...............I'll show them attached later on.........

Virtuoso
09-29-2002, 11:47 PM
And another...............More shots coming soon as well. Also I am getting near to the finish line with a character and Extra sweet prize for the contestants for the extreme Sport. Yes Prize 2 will be shown very soon...............One more Rudder shot angle............See you soon........:)

The detail level you are aiming for is amazing. I like your moto screw the polygons.
But as fellah mentioned earlier, those images looks to washed out. Maybe that was due to ambient lights. But I´ve seen the same look when I overused the IBI shader in RMAN. It´s a image based lighting model. Maybe heighten the contrast in your reflection maps?

and I really wanna see a not so washed out render.. it will show the beauty of it all..
of course the crits is because I like your creation so far and wan't to see it perfect, and you're on a good way :)

Dirk_P_Ho..............very nice of you to think so foundly of my work thus far, stick around, the components are just starting, tons more just around the corner.

eRaDiCaT0r...........Thanks too for the compliments, you give me that extra energy and drive to go on, it's very much appreaciated. I am happy you love the Dual Steam engine. And thanks for the concern for my health, I do some how find the time for eating, sleeping, and all that "other good stuff"...barely. Oh and for waves, you being from Hawaii know all about that obssession.............It's lucky for me that my "Laboratory is on the Beach", ride a few waves and back to the Lab for CG..................Thanks for the kind words again, hope to see you back later...............

ROT...........I am glad you finally found my thread, hopefully you will enjoy my continued efforts as I go on, looking forward to seeing you here again, and also in your thread.:)

Now to fellah and Mikael, my two Viking freinds, thank you for your excellent advice, always appreaciated...... These are very low rez shots of my original Hi-rez shots. So obviously to get them to under 50KB's and still keep them to a decent size of at least 700 that is necessary to show such a large vessel with many details I had to reduce the contrast and increase the gamma as well as reduce the overall quality of the image when saving the shot at under 50KB's.

I will be posting links soon of Hi-rez versions, you will then get to see them in there true glory. On top of that these are still WIP's and much more texturing is ahead. So fasten your seatbelts..................take care..............

OZ...........You are tooooooo kind, but it is very nice to get complemented from you, it gives me a extra push, and also means very much to me coming from you, one of the best true artists ..............Surprises are just starting..........The next Prize for the winners of my Extreme sport and much more are just around the corner,I think you will like them...............plus a "GIGANTIC SURPRISE" the sport and environment themselves too are being put together .................more on them very soon as well.....................Thanks again OZ for the nice comments.........

Fantastic work.
just one thing, the suport of the wings looks a bit weak, like it looks its going to break or something, well.. this is total fantasy so i dont believe that it matter much cose is totally sweet.

Hell... I just didn't check your threath after the pic with everything covered by the blanched.
AND What do you show us now!
Man this is really increadible.. as said before, a sick amouth of detail - I never could load that file into my pc or it already would get stuck with loading 1/10 of your model -

I read that it is a vehicle out of your novel that will be in the shops in 2003...-----> you better give us the ISBN number and the name and your real name so at least I can check it out when it is in the shops

me really  really amazed... cos you didn't show any work ( or I'm just blind as usual) on the forum until now, and now you come with this quality.

Then for last I get the idea that the ski's under your vehicle are some sort of launching system to gain speed and the shoot the arrow into the air for a nice air cruise. Isthat right?

well overwelm us with more of those images:cool:

the_jonas...............Yes it's nice to beat polys up once in a while, after so many years of counting them...... ;)

Innervortex..........Thanks for the wows and drools...........As for the wing support, well as you say first it is just fantasy,but..............I still try to stay within reason on all my work.I am a architect among other things, and beam support is a big part of my past,I have designed the wings with all weight and balance considerations. The wings are quite light actually, just bamboo, and canvas with light metal/bronze coated rings and bolts..............The attachments which there are 4 of them are twice the support needed for such weight. ............But you never know they still could break on this vessels many journey's...................Thanks again for your kind words, they mean alot to me.

Mikael................Yes you took my thoughts with your words perfectly. Thanks for the compliment, nice to hear your expert opinion any time.

Freemind77................I am happy you are amazed,I am very big on intricate details, glad you noticed, thanks .......

rizob................Thanks........as for the color scheme, don't let it bother you, they are just "placehoder colors" for the time being. The yellow symbolises bamboo, and the blue all kinds of bronze and coppers, the full textured version will be quite beyond these colors, plus when shown in 1024 or 1280 in a proper well lit scene it will be quite above this version with those nightmarish 50KB limits............Thanks for the kind words............

Iguiniz.X.................Very nice of you to say, really kind complments from you, thanks.I will let you in on all the news about the book just before it's release,I will send you a copy,if you like LOTR's or Star Wars, well this will be your cup of tea.
Yes this vessel is just a prop really for the overall scene,a vessel from "Hoss boulderbreaker" he is donating it to the winners of my extreme sport, another prize is ready to be shown within hours..............Stay tooned for that one, plus more on the actual sport, characters, and massive set..............Thanks again for the very kind words..........

erilaz................Thanks,yes it is quite heavy, but just really a tip of the iceberg for the overall plan I have, thanks for the compliment,it means alot,it gives me that extra push........

Lorenzo.............Oh lots of those wonderful polys......With hardware getting so powerful these days, and with Dual 3 gig machines right around the corner is'nt it great fun to beat the living daylights out of polys,no more having to "compromise our visions".........just create, put hardware in the backseat, and just create...............And thankyou for your kind words as well.................

Thanks to all for the extra push and very nice compliments.........

ah, nice to see more characters. It struck me when viewing that vessel. The weather must be awfully nice on that planet. No protection anywhere, just open spaces. And sunchairs :) hmm. now I got it.
Maybe you should make some considerations towards storms, or? Interesting to see this thing develop.

Virtuoso
10-02-2002, 10:28 PM
Yes you have a good eye Mikael.............this vessel is just a cruiser and at times doubles as a cargo vessel for the warmer type areas of my World also known as the "Forever"....It's captain Hoss Boulderbreaker used it for side quests and some cargo hauling, but in the mean time enjoyed some of the comforts as he and his crew cruised the coral reefs and aqua waters of this paracticular region, oh and flew above it as well...............Actually there is quite abit of protection as well, roofs, floors below as well, but why would you go anywhere but the comfortable chairs and enjoy the sun..............plus the vessel is also used for bungie jumping, sky surfing, and other fun crazy sports, and no that is not what my Extreme Sports event is all about,;)

Introducing the "COUNT"...............that's "COUNT ELEGAAANCE..............

The Count is another member just as Hoss Boulderbreaker is of the great crew of BAP,short for Brains a'plenty. The great inventor/navigator of the great Realms of the "FOREVER"......a crew of 44, soon to all be shown, all based from my up-coming novel.

The count will be donating prize 2 to the winners of my Extreme sport{ That too will be shown very soon),just as Hoss Boulderbreaker has done with his Bamboo and Bronze vessel............here is a sketch of what is in the works already. A full 3D viewing is right around the corner................So fasten your seatbelts...........

Virtuoso -- Wow, I am thoroughly amazed, the details on this ship are astounding! And this is just going to be one small piece of something grander, oh boy:p

The only thing that might seem a bit weird is that the engines do not in anyway looks like they can push this exquisite but massive ship. Otherwise, I love the small lampposts, the cockpit, and the engines. Very nicely done.

Benno.........................Thanks for the kind words. Well all my creations are based on my up-coming novels, and with the first novel coming in Spring 2003 and with the backing of the top Sci-fi-fantasy publisher, some good sales ( that they guarantee) and a good looking plan/concept for a full length CG movie based on the Novel you never know,it is part of my overall plans. I have other thoughts on a movie that I will talk of soon enough, but that's a little later......;)

Mikael...................Yes there are plans for a movie, read my comments to Benno..................And I am glad you like the details,we all know what it takes for those details, don't we.......;)

Fellah..................Thanks,you know it's funny, our work for this challenge is different in many ways, but at the same time the same.Your setting is in a small room but grand,it is set in a miniscule World, small area, but large in it's overall set pieces........Mine is very large but set in real World scale.Either way they both do require tons of work don't they............fun though huh?...................Thanks for your time and kind words...

Apt Pupil................Thanks for the compliments.........To thoroughly amaze you means something, you with the great ambition in all your creations.

And Apt.....thanks for looking out for me,I appreaciate the extra set of eyes anytime.................You know that I have already thought of the Steam engine situation. If you notice the shot below you will see I left extra space on either side of the steam engines,I had thought of giving this vast vessel Quadruple Steam engines, but your thoughts have pushed me over the edge, instead of just Dual ( It's never enough huh?)..................With your expert opinion I have gone and added another two massive engines for the vessel.........I have named the two new Steam engines Apt and Pupil;) in honor of you.................You know that the vessel is just for some cargo hauls and some extra fun like bungee jumping, sky surfing, para-sailing and parties among other things.............It will never be entered in any "POD Racing events I can assure you...........Just criuse speed baby..............Thanks again for the nice comments and the good suggestion............

Freemind................Thank-you.............very kind of you.

And yes it will all be textured eventually,to show it in it's full glory, along with a link that will enable you to see it in hi-rez where it really shines................

Yes all will be part of one massive scene. As a matter of fact it is just part of an even bigger scene.I have been working on for quite some time. This challenge's creations will be added to my overall project, one that has been in the works for quite some time................All based on my up-coming novels.

Yes there will be an animation, tons of characters, creatures, architecture by the ton, many scenes within one gigantic one,but all in due time,it's getting there, soon.

We work with Max for the most part. But Maya is now part of the arsenal as well.My Brother works with everything under the sun.......

As for the "ARENA".................Well I code name it the JACK-NIK seats, I'll explain about it later..............;)

Well in a couple hours I'll up-date with the un-veiling of the good "COUNT ELEGAAANCE"............plus after that I will show the next PRIZE for the extreme Sport winners, donated by the Count himself...........And then I'll start showing more surprises that I have been working on for the "set",props etc, etc, plus a couple very interesting participants for the Extreme Sports event itself,it's all coming together, now if I only had 48 hour days...............;)

Someone has been watching too much final fantasy...

Nice to see a character, I really like his face. But you dont plan on using that bronze shader?
I think there are some proportion issues with his arms. Maybe it´s just the fact that the lower arms are bent upwards that gives the wrong impression. But after a close study I think his upper arm is to long. Still not sure though. Just take a closer look.
Nice hair.

Mikael P.................Thanks as well.......And your opinion is valuable to me,and appreaciated..............I am happy you like him. As for the arm length, it is done intentionally, I am following in a way, the old Disney motto of "Squash and streatch",exxagerate as much as possible. Kind of a "Inbetween World of Toons and real World type characters.............",in some cases Extra large hands,or extra thin waists,or extra short legs,etc,etc...exxageration is important to me. Like the tin man in The Wizard of OZ has Silverish skin the Good Count has Bronze skin. Plus the bend in the arms you see is for a reason,I will show this later on............Yes his arms are bent for a reason...........Don't forget he is just one of the crew men of the "Great BAP ( Brains a'Plenty) one of the 44 along with Hoss Boulderbreaker whose vessel you have already seen,in this he is just a presenter or donator of one of the prizes for the Extreme Sport winners, just an extra piece in my vast creation.......Thanks for adding tips ,it is appreaciated....

Fellah..............Hey Fellah, actually he is not a robot,he is half organic and half in-organic,he is created by the great BAP ( brains a'Plenty) one of the stars of my up-coming novels..........a man with nice extras given to him from the great "Einstien like" Brains a'plenty...more on that later.........I will be rigging him for my overall project outside this challenge, the pose he is in is for a reason..............you shall see in a couple hours.............he will be presenting the next prize for the Extreme Sports winners,I am creating the shots now.............As for the hair from his ears,,,,nope, just his sideburn area, but it loops and sways back over the ears, the hair grows from just in front of the ears,I checked...............I can't give you that one.....;) But I understand....................,It's fantasy characters don't forget, like your little girl has this little belly that looks like her back-side is facing front ways,it's fantasy,it's CG it's a cross inbetween the real World and the Toon World...............Thanks for the kind words everyone...................

ok you know what, i had to trudge through 8 pages of replys and photos to tell you what i think....so you better damn well take it to heart.. :annoyed:

there are a couple things i have to say, first is STOP ****ING MAKING THIS STUFF!!!! YOU ARE PISSING THE HELL OUTTA ME!! I SWEAR IF YOU PUT ONE MORE PICTURE I WILL SHOOT MYSELF!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

you are too f'in good man, how in blue shit are you doing this....i mean HELLO?? HELLO?? HOW THE **** ARE YOU DOING ALL THOSE DETAILS??? AND WHY?!?!? lol

WHY THE HELL ARE YOU SO GOOD?????????????? thats what pisses me off is that you are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo extremely detailed with your work, just before i clicked on this thread i was thinking how i might get into the industry......then i saw how detailed YOU make things......and buddy that aint gonna be happening with me........lol.....

oh my god.......i am soo annoyed right now that i ..........fudge packers.....lol........sorry man.......it is just i am mad, because i look at what you have done and just simply stare in awe....i could never do that man..... sigh...:hmm: well, it is good though that you are enjoying yourself, because it is never good to do things that you dont enjoy..... and you made me smile and laugh in astonishment when i saw you added 2 more engines.... :)

hey man your book sounds like it will be really really good.....i will probably buy it..... but it seems like you have been avoiding questions about it....are you not alowed to say anything beacuse of like contracts or something? or do you just miss the questions.....?

or you simply dont want to give anything away?

also, are you serious about the movie thing? because if you are, that would be totally amazing........would it be like a feature film or just something yo download? or........................

i also have to ask you to congradgulate your brother for me. tell him to keep up the good work!

at first i thought this was like a treasure hunt thing like whole bunch of people search the globe for amazing treasure...etc etc...and those things the ship and the other prizes would be the.......lol wel prizes.......(stupid) anyhoo....maybe its like an Unreal Tournament type thing where everyone fights to the death.....and no one wins so the donated prizes get sent back to the owners...(sorry to lazy to look for the names.....i know its like elegAAAnce and boulderbreaker...something along those lines.. :hmm: sorry...)

but it will definatly be interesting to see what comes out of all of this and i will definatly buy the books when they come out........they sound like they will be awesome....

also a question on your website for the HI REZ pics......any new news on that?? cant wait....lol

i thing i noticed that im not to educated on is the bambo....does bambo really come that thick?? and big?? because judging on the size of everthing else....it seems like the bambo is massive......like i said, im not really educated on bambo so it is really possible i am wrong.....

also another thing i noticed......is that the ship has no wheels.....but it has wings and ski's(sorry forget the words for them) really dont know if you told us this, but i am guessing it is an air slash water vehicle.....and possible lands on sand...or has the abilitly to go on sand......

the reason i brng this up is because

1. if it is an air vehicle how will it land...those ski things would get bent and broken on impact.....(but judging from what they are made out of, i can be wrong)

2. if it is a water vehicle than those ski things will definatly not hold it up in water.....you need some kind of container to hold air so it floats....so i am guessing its not for water......

hmm i thought i had more points but i guess not.......oh well......

couple things i really must know, is 1.lol, how many polys is it...

and 2.how many objects were used on the ship.... i say 250

and as for the poly count i guess around 2 to 3 billion.....lol

oh well you be the judge, and thanks for taking the time to read this, i appreciate it, and hope all your time and effort is worth it, if not for career type stuff than at least for yourself.....

Geta-Ve,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,What can one say...................well to begin with a big thanks,I really appreaciate your kind words and thoughts, they are tooooo kind. They really do give a great push to continued progress.

The novels will be out this Spring and the next in Spring of 2004................I am already in the works for the third, just the foundation phase which will follow sometime in 2005.I don't want to go into too much detail about it because I don't want to bore people with it,they are not here for it. Plus I will let the novels do my talking for me at the right time.........All I will say is the number 1 publisher is very excited and looking for big things...That would be nice,we shall see.

As for the movie possibilities.............Well with the up-coming novels and a good sound script based on the novels and a good design doc and concepts there may be something sometime. I have been in talks ........early ones already, but it's still months away before anything is cemented to begin with actual work on it. I already have many models, concepts etc,etc..designed from 3D to actual sculptures, many sets already as well...........we shall see soon enough. Cross your fingers........:)

As for Hi-rez shots.............I am getting my site together, soon I hope I will give everyone a chance to view my work as it is intended to be seen. 50 KB does more damage than good, do I hear at least a 60 KB limit...............;)

The bamboo is thicker than what we have here on Earth,but................My sets and scenes do not take place on Earth. Fantasy is so wonderful, it allows for soooo much flexibility. The vessel can land on Water and sand,it has 140 foot ski's,very durable, and extra strong.............Last I talked to Hoss Boulderbreaker the vessels owner, he had said there has never been a problem, all is well.................;)

There are over 4 million polys for that vessel and all it's extra's................I just love slapping polys around when I get the chance..................It's revenge for all those years of having to count them and limit them.....gone are the days of limiting our visions due to poly count,at least for the most part.

Again thanks very much for the kind words and compliments, and I hope to see your work sometime soon as well.I'll be seeing you around the Forums...........

Tubby.................Big thanks.I hope to see more of you here, in the next challenge if possible. I think that will be a real bonus for everyone concerned. See you soon, and thanks again............

Update time............

It's time for the Good "COUNT ELEGAAANCE" to present the next prize for the Extreme Sports winners...........Hoss Boulderbreakers vessel was one prize and here is the other, donated by Count Elegaaance............

What you see in the good Count's hands is a model of the actual "Summerhome Chateux" he owns in the "Great Realm",one of his vacation spots,he is donating it.............The actual chateux will be waiting for one of the winners of the extreme sports event. So this is just a token or representitive of the actual Chateux itself..........

The next prize..................

Also the actual participants for the Extreme events themselves are under way. The Star of my Extreme Sports event is named....."WINKA WINKLEDAM".............plus one of Winka's arch enemies....They will be shown real soon.......I'll be back soon enough................Thanks ................

I cant say much more than just looking good. I like your connections to the wizard of OZ ( :) ). Now when I see that character I like his arms more and more.

The only thing I miss on your house is some structure on that roof. Otherwise it looks nice.

10-10-2002, 10:09 AM
Hi Mikael.............Actually the Chateux is still a WIP,don't forget..........;) The added structure will come for the roof portions,it will have a oxydized Bronze Roof eventually........

Geta-Ve................Thanks again for the compliments, they are appreaciated, you are giving me that extra push, that we all need at times. Thanks................

I have been busy down in the laboooooratory with Winka Wonkledam and Winka's arch nemesis in the Extreme Sports event,,they are coming together quite well thus far.Plus the stadium and the Jack Nik seats too are in there final stages...........more later, back to the laboooooratory on the Beach.............;)

this really shows you're an architect, very neat. although.. have you planned how you will compose this in the end? it will be hard without loosing alot of the nice details I think.. but it might not matter as you'll probably use this for your own project anyway ;)

happy modeling :)

Thanks for looking out for me Mikael...............

Fellah....................Thanks,yes a small piece of tons of architecture I plan on doing and have already done. All kinds from this style to traditional to really way out there fantasy style.

I have a plan, yes on the final layout. And yes all these pieces will be just a small part of my overall plans. A small section if you will of my gigantic World/Realm the Forever, all based on my novels. Just showcasing a lot of models, showing some versatility.

The stadium, and the "code-named Jack-Nik Seats" are finished, modeling wise,I'll show props and background objects later today.Along with the speacial Jack-NIK seats in a couple days. I have been working hard on the actual participants as well, one being named Winka Wonkledam the other being Winka's enemy or partner,I'll keep you quessing for now. Thanks and I'll see you soon...................:)

levin................No stearoids for breakfast, lunch or dinner for me.................But it's very funny that you mention this. I have been into bodybuilding for years now,and I get the "Do you use Stearoids" comment quite often due to it. But never before about CG,now that's a first,it's quite funny to me.

Thanks for the compliments ,they are appreaciated, and give me that extra push.

Grosserfrosch.............. Yes I have taken every architectural design course and then some.I have a Masters degree in architecture. I have created 3 massive custom homes already and had them built since my school days. And believe it or not they are still standing to this day, they have not crumbled down yet.................keeping my fingers crossed for no problems there.......... ;) I have also created about 20 million polys worth of architecture for a private CG project,I will only unveil this in 3 or 4 months however...................But plan on some extra fun architecture in the next challenge if possible..................Something really spectacular hopefully..........Thanks for your interest........

OK..................here is an update.............It's one of the many "MONORAILS" you will see flying high above my Stadium where the extreme Sports event will be taking place. Really just a prop, but quite detailed none the less for being just a background prop.

I also will be showing more Stadium props tomorrow. On top of this I have been working on getting things together in one big happy family..........many shots of the actual stadium and the "Tricked out seats"....code-named " Jack NIK seats" also coming in a few days now.

Winka Wonkeldam too is finished for the most part, I'll show Winka in a day or so, just some fine-tuning to get Winka to the finish line. And also another participant in the works.I am in the middle of the modeling phase now,it's coming along OK thus far. So here are some shots of the Monorail tracks, extras for it and the cab for the passengers, there will be many of these high above the stadium when all is finalised, but here are some preliminary looks at the monorail for the time being.............I'll be back soon with more...........

Wow:love: This is quite . . . awesome!! I cannot even imaging the computer power necessary to compute all this once it's all together:argh:

I refrain from commenting because without seeing it as a whole, it's hard to even imaging where all the pieces will fit into the bigger scheme of things. However, I am rooting for you all the way, this is fabulous and very ambitious, I am really, really looking forward to seeing this one finished. Otherwise, all the smaller items seem quite good to me.

Calle.............Yes it is total madness, but a good fun kind................thanks for the applause........:)

Dirk_P_Ho.................Once again thanks very much for your kind comments.............You have a very good eye for details. Yes there are another set of runners on the top attached to the other set of runners................When I created the piece I had them tucked in as they should be all attached and proper as a real World system would and does have. But they were hidden, buried in the tracks themselves, all that extra detailing gone to waste,so I decided to duplicate the 8 wheels and show the lower 8 ones, while keeping the attached true to life wheels still attached above. So they all now work together as they should and at the same time give the overall look a little more appeal,at least I think so.................Thanks for your continued interest and great points, they are appreaciated very much.

pigwater...................Thanks Pigwater,I need all the push and positive thoughts possible to get it finished properly.I hope all is well now with your PC situation? Stay cool...........

fellah.......................I quess to be called "bastard" by you is as great a compliment you can give,at least close.....;) ....Thanks it's appreaciated............Since you are waiting for this creation most of all to see how it will end you add some extra pressure for me,but..................I like that,I eat it up.;)

I quess I have done a good enough job in keeping you clueless thus far on what exactly is up...............Yes I have arranged the whole scene already. A beast actually,I am planning out some extra shots/angles now. Plus I have a little glass detailing to get done for the Jack-Nik seats in the stadium, tons of work there.....Thanks very much Fellah,it all means alot to me..........

Dirk_P_Ho................

:p .....................You are a puller of legs................I think that style would be cooool,go for it........;) Thanks very much once again, you have given me extra strength with all of your nice and helpful comments................

Mikael P...............Thanks,I think somehow our characters could live in the same World, that would be extra sweet..............Yes I tried to get them different, but at the same time to look like they were actually Brothers,I quess I came pretty close...............The shark-surfing Bros................The skins will have textures, more than likely just after the challenge, but I plan on jewelry, tatoos, etched patterns or carvings upon them, tons of details.................None on the hands or face's yet,but sooooon....Thanks again Mikael for your great support............

Well back to the laboooooratory, About 12 hours of Set layout finalising and detailing to do,along with a few more shots to set up of the Jack-Nik seats within the actual Stadium..........It's coffee time............Thanks again to all........

P.S. Which Brother Winka (Blackish overcoat of shark skin) or Whopper (Reddish overcoat) is more striking to you guys overall...............Thanks very much, see you real soon.........

Absolutley awesome work there man:buttrock:

And to your question:

I like Winka better. Both are great, but Winka seems more evil and hmm.......:buttrock::bounce: , dude who ackts before thinking. Whopper seems older and wiser and hmm........:shame: :), guy who thinks before ackts, so them should be creat togeather and balance each other.

Great job:thumbsup:

I just woke and my enghlis sucks, but hope u understand

mebamonster..................Thanks very much for the high praise. Tons left still to do for me. I'll get as much done as possible and then after the challenge fine tune a few things just to get them to a higher level. Thanks again..........

Poju.................Thankyou for the kind words as well. I think Winka has more of a thinkers look, but they both are quite the characters when it comes to Shark surfing and shark gladiator battles.................Plus they have cousins,I'll show them at a later date.........a whole crew of them............;)

EWell I have just put in about 10 straight hours in on some fine tuning of the overall set, mostly the Jack Nik seats................I need a bit of sleep now,and then back at it in a few hours..............I'll get as much as possible done tomorrow........I'll update then................it's 4:30 AM here..time for about 5 good hours of sleep......See you soon.........And thanks to all the viewers.more than 20.000 views...that's a ton.....Thanks.............

visualboo......................Thankyou,intricate details are vital to my overall creations ,but also a cause of no sleep.............;)

fellah.................Yes Fellah,I wish it could be up,but nope, more work,work,work..............Thanks for your interest................soon however,V-Ray does not like large scenes, especially with XP................But I'll get the essence of my creation in.And as you will do add beef and detailing to all the characters and set peices after the challenge..............Thanks again.....................

Joril.............Thanks very much, very kind of you to think so. Originality is very important to me.Individual styles as well.............Thanks again, very nice of you to come by and give me that extra energy with your kind words.

Mikael P.................Yes the wait, the work I'll be doing while you wait will be intense, and full of anxiety. But you too have a beautiful Troll to get out to show the World....So we are in the same boat, how did we manage this..............See ypou soon, and thanks........................

I am putting together what I can as fast as possible.Extra details will be done after the challenge for a few days, got to make it all shiny and polished for my portfolio. Plus my website, will get some work on it.Most importantly for those "HiREZ" shots, they are very important for those larger scenes,50 KB's (actually only 48.5 KB's,even worse) just don't cut it for bigger scenes, individual characters are OK,but big scenes are nightmares with the low 50 KB limit. They really hurt the overall look and feel a great deal. But soon all my work can be seen in Hi-rez versions, including my up-coming work and my private project.

I'll be back soon, with a look at the stadium and Jack Nik seats, along with the Brothers Winkledam doing some Shark surfing,etc,etc................Thanks very much......................

Hi everyone.................Well I am baking some shots, and in the meantime wanted to explain what's up.............:)

Well if you have followed my thread you will have noticed many polys...millions of them. Problem is V-Ray which I am useing cannot handle polys when they get up into the 4 million plus area while useing Windows XP,far from 10 million plus............There are issues there............When instancing over and over it's OK,but.............When useing mostly original geometry V-Ray cannot handle major scenes as of now............I am useing a Dual 2.2 Gig with 3 gigs of Ram,great power, but V-Ray is bottlenecking my overall scene.

So I have had to put the prizes I showed earlier in poster forms,I had to avoid as many polys as possible. The vessel of Hoss Boulderbreaker and the Chateux being donated by Count Elegaaance are still in but................In poster form due to my problems with V-Ray and XP compatibility...............I will however be getting them together and showcasing them in the finished gallery later,I will be working and fine tuning all of these creations this week.

The actual scene you will see is the main characters the "Winkledam" Brothers Winka, and Whopper on Sharks, there steeds, they race or surf upon them through a gigantic arena filled with Water.........................You will see them in practice mode,no crowds or other participants for the time being.

The seats you will see circled around the two participants and there pet sharks of extra enormous size are the "Jack-Nik seats".The first class seats named after the Actor and big Laker fan Jack Nicholson..............

;)

These seats move, they follow the action as it goes, always in perfect position, right in front of the racers/surfers at all times. The track goes for miles, the seats right there with them.........................The section you will see is just a portion of the entire race track, about 1.300 feet in length.............The seats and it's main cars are able to move due to tracks pretty much like Monorail tracks..............you can see them in a shot or two as I post them.....................

There will still be about a week of work after this challenge to get the characters detailed out and the set finished, textured properly. Also I will show this set in it's proper way with some Hi-Rez shots real soon, 50 K just kills large scenes as I know you all know,I will get my site going this week as well..............

Well thanks for hearing me out.....I'll be back soon with some shots, and then I better turn in my final...............Sooooo close to the deadline,I can smell it.....................Thanks,I'll be back real soon........................

Well it's been fun....................Here are a few shots. I just submitted the final one. It should standout a bit better than these due to getting more of those valuable KB's...........;)

But here are some others just for the fun of it...........Plus soon I will post all of this challenges shots at my site in Hi-Rez,which will do them real justice..................

Thankyou to all whom gave me support and sound advice.................You gave me the extra energy and strength...............Thanks again...see you soon, next challenge perhaps??? ;)
