Hey, im new to this whole thing aswell, about a week now. What ive been getting into is characters & mainly head modeling. The best thing ive found, is to do a tutorial, but dont copy it exactly, just use the techniques and apply it to a slightly different head (or whatever the tutorial is on), that way, you learn how to use the techniques, and ur not just following instructions. Also, ive been looking at COUNTLESS WIP threads, and analysing the way most people structure there polygons for creating their heads, by that i mean how they split the polygons around the eyes, mouth etc, where they use more polygons, and why they use them there, eventualy you start to notice patterns, and then you understand why people split the polygons around the eyes the way they do, and when you understand it, it is alot easier to apply it and achieve the result your looking for. Im not experienced AT ALL in CG, but this is just what ive found has helped me a lot in my first week of modeling. Hope it helps you out a bit.

There is a HUUUUGGGE list of tutorials that can be found on this website.

Go through the 3ds max tutorials that come with the program, that should help a lot. There are also a number of books for max users that you can buy. Just search Amazon, and you won't have a problem finding one to suite your needs.

If you've already made some progress, then just keep doing it. It's all about practice at the end of the day!

Ok yeah thanks-

Heres probly my most furthest project i ever got through then i thought damn cause it just wasnt what i wanted and the way i done it didnt turn out good at the end.
My friend says there wasnt enough edge loops in some areas to add like the extra detail, and said it was just stuffed so ive come here for help to just understand it.
