View Full Version : character concept
applejak 03-27-2005, 02:17 PM i'm new to this forum but wanted to hear some c&c on this class project i'm working on. it is a character concept for the cover of a video game. i scanned this in and am going to paint using photoshop or painter, his main weapon will be to throw fireballs from his hands, i wanted to give it a final fantasy or lord of the rings feel which is difficult for me

.......just a curious question first of all...
which final-fantasy-ish style are you trying to go for? if its mr.amano's style... IMHO, its kinda off :)
IMHO, it looks more like tim burton's art work :D
what kind of game is it going to be?

to be honest, i don't know that much about final fanstasy, i have never played the game, but the artistic style i am going for is like d&d, magic: the gathering, just alot of old stuff mixed together, like ogres, knights on horseback, sorcerers and kings, and my character is in the middle getting attacked by giant spiders, demons, dragons, going through fortresses, forests, picking up magic items and weapons, the game is thrid person, he is able to jump, swim, attack enemies, and eventually save the kingdom from emminent doom, thats the game in a nutshell

Hrm. Well, I can say I like your angular style - very nice and full of character. However, the character himself looks more like a humorous character rather than something LOTR-ish or Final Fantasy-ish since those two things are usually more dramatic and heroic.

Reminds me of fable. Try making the character more dynamic, Maybe just a tad less cartoonishly exaggerated. I'm Not really a fan of the big head, but if you call more attention to the flamig hands (By making them a relevant light source) it will work just fine. Also, move that right (our right) eye closer to the center of the face. Keep working and this could be very nice.
