or do i need to start all over again?:hmm:

Hey There,
IF your patch mesh are all quads you might have some luck with a plugin from Blur that supposedly drops a subdivision level as if you were using meshsmooth. I haven't tried it, so I don't know that is a solution.

Otherwise, you are at the mercy of optimize modifier which does not work great (for me anyways)
Or you might find a good script from scriptspot.com

use the multires modifer its much better then optimize and will cut down on the faces keeping the shap
