The idea comes from my favorite theme: humans and nature.
A big brain as a plant (like cauliflower) cultivated by a headless farmer. They can't live without each other. The brainflower controls everything using telekinesis (?). The farmer, just a muscles mass, is a link between immobile mind and phisical world. They both become a single human.

I made a simple composition sketch to show my idea.
The Brainflower is similar to ordinary cauliflower, but in biger size ofcourse. I had another idea to put my picture in the sea environment, but I coudn't find the reason for the farmer to exist.
If you don't understand my english ask me, I will explain you :)

Today I had an idea to put my scene in the sky. But... I think to start loosing the original idea. It is now hard to explain the existing of headless humans. Is a man without a head still a human? :) Maybe I'll give them heads back :)
It would be interesting to put all family living on a flying Brainflower.
Now the couliflower is mixed with a giant brain and... a medusa.
This small ecosystem takes its power from fumbled birds catched in the roots. Sounds wired, I know :)

Wicked concepts! I like the flying ones best, although the huge growing one is cool, too. The flying ones just have a bit more elegance to them. ^^ And the idea about birds caught in the roots is great. Maybe something to portrait the interdependency between the headless humans and the cauliflowers more clearly? Perhaps show them linked in places somehow... Or maybe have some human bent over the edge of the roots sticking a bird there as if feeding the cauliflower?

wow those are just awesome concepts! I am really looking forward to see them colored!
I wish you luck, u should be able to get something nice out of this!

Good idea Iiiga - feeding! Thanks!
I can imagine a single (headless) human living on the flying brainflower, using his bow to hunt for birds.
But... what is the human eating...? And where is the bow from?
I will work on the subject
It becomes to complicated.

The alternative concept with garden and a farmer is still strong :)

Ok, that's anough! :)
I dont't use so much line art in my everyday work, so let's finish with it.
The idea seems to be strong.
Next step will be coloring.

I still worked with a sketch, but with decreased transparency.
I'm using Painter, but to menage colors I open my work in Photoshop. Painter's little windows in filters are just useless. I need fullsize preview to work with color MrCorel!
So, few times I corrected levels, saturations etc in PS.
The right picture show my decision to make a brainflower a little bit wormer. It helps to show the evening atmosphere.

Previous pictures where 150dpi to not kill my mac.
Now, I changed the resolution for 300dpi to work with details.

i really like the painting style. maybe you could consider putting in a few more cauliflower brains further into the distance, have them in a faded silluette (i cant spell that) like the ons youve already shown in the bg. gl

Actually it's not just coloring but making another elements, without a lineart to go faster.
I'm working with the background.
One of the most important element is the Brainflower on the bottom - he "tells the story" - we can see that this is a brain, not an couliflower.

Sweet! I love the colors you're using here. The brain looks brainy! Right now the composition is looking a little strange, but then again I'm guessing it will get weighed out when you add the people etc.? Hmm, isn't the stem on the bottom cauliflower a little long? Seems a bit longer than on the other ones, but might be just me.

the depth has really improved now with those in the bg. maybe you could give them a few very long 'hair' roots and have these 'drifting' in from out of shot, like massive jellyfish tendrils like the man of war. good work! :D

I really like this image ...nice tweaks...beautiful colors and a good composition imho

only thing you could work on are the turned down edges/rims of the big flower ... they could be a bit sharper and not so round... they look like molten wax in the middle at the moment ... other than that nothing to say just that i love it :D

Finaly I added a worm attacking the main Brainflower.
The pose of the Guard has changed to make some interaction between those to guys.
Now, there is a little story, seconds before something to happen.

Ther is a really stron sense of a complete world here. Makes the imaginatoin race, thinking about what the relationship is. I love the idea of brain flowers.

There is a nice painterly feel with nice colours but I think that some of the brush marks on the forground leaf are maybe a little prominent?

youve got a good sense of color and form. i really like the plant's characteristics and the texture of the leaves. i dont have much to crit here yet... just do an awesome job. wait, actually, i wouldnt mind if the relationship between the plant and the character were resolved better. in an image intended for viewing, the viewer must not be confused. this is doing a good job, but i think pushing a bit more would really eliminate all confusion regarding the relationship aspect. great piece.

My intention was to create a scene that wouldn't be so obvious for viewer. I could paint a half naked woman with a big sword and a creature attached to a chain :) I preffered to show a little piece of a big story, a captured moment. Silence before a storm (worm in the top right corner). My idea was to create an image of dependence based on faith, admiration, mistery, not violence or fear.
