Latest Update: Lighting: some initial lighting
my first challenge, my first wip thread in here.
The subject is a voo-doo priest with a doll. everything is clear - who is a master and who is a servant here.
wait oh no! The doll! It has priests face?! How come? Did the demon took control over the priest? Who is in charge now?
I am going to concentrate on the moment when priest realizes that he is the one who serves - hope i manage.
i want to show a common situation - we are not always masters of ourselves. we often enslave ourself, and don't know when, don't know how. So the priest became a a slave of his own temptations, of his own will for power. i think u can compare the "background" of this image to meaning of card XV in tarot's major arcana - "the devil".
.....the enemy held my will in his power and from it he made a chain and shackled me. For my will was perverse and lust had grown from it, and when I gave in to lust habit was born, and when I did not resist the habit it became a necessity. These were the links which together formed what I have called my chain, and it held me fast in the duress of servitude.....
Saint Augustine, Confessions
have a nice competition folks!
1.ear is to far. maybe it is also to small, but i want him to have relatively small ears.
2 do mouth and teeth

wonderful idea! And good start on the model. After tweaking this what your wrote, and maybe also some more defined lines around chicks, he should look great. A long, a bit dirty, old top-hat would be a great idea. It would give him some own, unique style.
tired of making face - started to make a torso
Coraz wiecej nas tutaj :)
Nice model

Hehe Looks like we can meet at one thread hey :) Good luck to all my fellow CG Talkers from middle Europe
Nice start. I like the details in the clothes....cut in a few wrinkles in the sleeves and it will rock :buttrock:
Krzysiek is the ear supposed to be that small? Normally it starts from above the brow and ends near the jaw line. Will be dropping by to see your progress :)
Oh yeah and Happy Easter :D
the ear :D - yes - attaching them alway make me sick. i will fix it, but have to rest from the face of the damned wich-doctor...

Quite nice my nigga :)
Waiting to see some more of "f"oo"d"ooo :)
i know that the hand is not modelled very well and it has twisted wrist, but i dont want to tweak it to perfection until i figure out the position of voo-doo doll.
what do u think about it? i have some doubts about an elbow...
i am waiting for C&C

but plzz kick my ass a little bit couse i am getting lazy ;)
same here, same here my friend:)
But I'm moving those vertices as much as I can, hope to show something today:twisted:
some master poses. (the voo-doo doll).
i want him to be recognized as a master. which of the poses is the most apropriate one? any suggestions?
I think second and fourth. I think you should draw this poses from back.
03-30-2005, 05:18 PM
that is a really cool konzept, i like it very much
i am really looking forward of how you make the expressions (as those will be the most important things here)
and i think the pose right hand side upper corner is the best (on the image with 5 poses)
i am looking forward to see that finished
good luck =)
you wanted from behind - here it goes
and even more poses.
as it was said it is very important to get apropriate a pose in my case, so i may be a little "spaming".
please share your suggestions.

kru .. first off, i like the concept .. a little dive into the supernatural is always fun stuff ... as far as the poses ... well ya got a tough problem, and that is we kinda need to see both of their faces to make the connection of whats going on ... you could put on similar clothes .. but then the sudden realization factor doesn't work .. hmmmm
how about the priest is jabbing a pin into the doll (or some action to the doll) and he is the one that bleeds (or whatever) .. ... but then that might look like self mutilation ... hmmmm
it will be interesting to see how you tackle this .. good luck

Hmmm I'd make the knuckles a bit more visible...elbows look ok but smooth out the part in the lower arm. Some verts are probably moved badly...they form a shadow all the way from the elbow to the palm.....oh yeah and add in the end of the bone in the lower arm... where it meets the palm (no wiesz ta wypukla czesc kosci :))
Keep them polygons rollin
thx for replies
KryHoo - thanks man, i hope he will look surprised also ;)
arturro - day without modeling is a lost one ;)
ps.pl - i started a chart among my friends with votes on the pose (+1 vote, thx)
phynix - thanks for good words
pigwater - about clothes. i have two options.
1. doll made of wax - adventage is that it would be quite light so it would be well visible. disadvantage SSS would kill my CPU ;)
2. doll in clothes (well "rags") - the advetnage is that it may look cool, but it may be not so good noticable. may be "lost", because similar materials will be near in much bigger quantity (the which doctor clothes). about sudden reaction - come on it is magick! the doll could change it's appearance in a glance! - so it is not a problem
pins- yes there will be pins. curently the winning option is that the which doctor would hold a pin, like he would just have wanted to pin the doll. But i musn't sculpt him pinning because thats the plot! This is why the doll-deamon has the power over the priest -fear of losing life!
about the faces - well - voodoo's face will be nearly not visible because it is turned with his back facing camera
3draven - witam w moim wątku! i am not really sure which part are u talking about(the shadow), "and the lower arm bone"- yes u're right. i ll fix it as soon as i and modeling teeth, and decide what pose of a doll make.

The puppetmaster realizes HE's the puppet! Great one!
Modeling's good. I think the mouth could have some more detail... hihi, that small ear is cool! :)
Keep it up, and good luck!
EDIT: Hmm... I just realised you're trying out poses for the puppet as well as for the voodoo master.... but you won't be able to show both in the same picture, will you? Maybe a mirror would solve the problem... the puppet reflected on the glasses of the voodo master maybe...
a friend of mine, gave mi an idea to act in front a mirror as i was the voo-doo doll saying the phrase. And that was It(thanks pal)!!! Here is an effect. this is a pose "I AM the master now". how do you like it?

yap! that's it:) I did the same in front of the mirror to check this one, and it was quite similar:)
but I would move the pointing hand more in front of him, now it looks a bit as he was posing and showing muscles:)
while thinking about poses i made a tophat ,teeth, and corrected ear of the which-doctor
03-31-2005, 10:05 PM
nice start on the modeling :) i think you could refine the mouth corners.
03-31-2005, 10:10 PM
yap, nice progress! I think that it would be nice if the top of the hat was "wilted". And maybe some small wholes... Not sure if you get me:) but it would make it look older and more used.
i am considering these compositions.
which one is the most equivalent for the emotions i want to express? (see over for details)
04-04-2005, 02:01 AM
kru .. i kinda like b & f .. with the doll and guy in close together ... well... that's my pick
comin along nice:thumbsup:
04-04-2005, 02:45 AM
its kind of wierd that my choices is the field our field... i pick C and G... no wonder LoL... c and g for me man.. more emotion in the face... great going man keep it up...
04-09-2005, 08:47 AM
Looking good my friend :)
My choice is "B"
it'll give your Character more power I guess.
keep it up mate.
04-09-2005, 09:25 AM
hey man,my choice is A and B!
04-09-2005, 12:28 PM
Hi kru, I say E has the most natural visual flow..ie Where my eyes travel when scanning the image. I'd say if you raise the other hand up as if he's fully cursing or about to stick him with a pin then it'll tie it up better.
04-13-2005, 11:27 AM
hi. I'd say A, E or G. both hands should be visible. I think well composed scene is when vital elements are well placed in line. let's take E for example: like Daddymack says, raising right hand a bit will make the image look natural - crucial elements will be placed on diagonal line from topleft corner to bottomright corner. the same with A and G. hope this helps.
04-13-2005, 06:07 PM
I agry with DaddyMack and grooshka I think you it should be done. Good luck. very good work with facial expresion. And you know that theolder people gets the bigger their ears. Pai attention to such details. Good luck to you.
thank you very much for all the opinions they were very valuable for me.
after consideration i've chosen something similar to pose A. not only because of "natural flow" but i guess this composition gives the biggest opportunity to identificate the small figurine as the master. I guess it is because of the fact that it's head look's like it was placed higher than the big guy's head. Unfortunately this way of showing the scene makes me put him faced back to camera,( i tried to rotate, but then he couldn't streigthen his back like he streightens now. it is because of the way the big one holds him)
anyway it is A and it will stay A
now the lighting phase ;)
04-14-2005, 09:02 PM
Like the pose very much!
Interested to see how it goes in the composition
04-15-2005, 11:28 AM
Hey. Just wanted to drop a line and say that your comp is class. The whole voodoo theme oozes with atmosphere and I will be anxious to see your textures. Have fun.
04-15-2005, 12:21 PM
Whhoa Kru nice setup with the voodoo man (although I think you got a runaway vertex in his hand) The lighting really got things going
