Hi,
I have problems with choosing the right values for colors in textures. So I would like to ask you how do you choose your values when you're painting textures. Do you take them from photos? How do you know if they are of right hue, saturation and value. Is there such thing as right color?

Mostly for me it is a subjective value, just like traditional painting. I do try to make my color maps be just color though, no shading or lighting, because that interferes with the 3d shading. Only exception is that I find it helps to add a little soft ambient-occlusion-style shading to my color maps.

Leigh explains this in her helpful tutorial series.

I'm sorry for wasting your time Eric. I've read those tutorials but forgot few things. So it looks like this art is learned by practicing.
Thanks
