With all the talk of "Chicksnsnakes" around here, I figured most would shy away from the concept. Instead, I plan to march ahead with my plan to present an image featuring human laborers being commanded over by an entire FLEET of chicks* on snakes.

*Perhaps not what you were thinking?

-----

This first sketch is just to get my basic idea out there. The composition itself will likely change quite a bit. I'd like to show a view of a more sprawling landscape with many more human laborers being oppressed by the domineering Chicksnsnakes.

I'm also thinking I may put some sort of large structure being built in the background. I originally thought I would tie it in with the Egyptians building the pyramids, but then I decided it might be interesting to have the laborers dressed in modern-day working attire (ie: slacks, nice shirt, tie, etc...)

I realize my original sketch really didn't translate very well. It wasn't doing a very good job of showing the idea in my head.

This sketch shows what the oppressive Chicksnsnakes look like. They are terrifying. It is not hard to see why the humans would do their bidding without question.

Awesome concept. (um... don't snake scales go smooth on their nose?...) Anyways, I can't wait to see this one finished.

More concept sketches. I realize most people have alread jumped into the modeling phase, but I'm trying my best to be patient and make sure I've got my idea solidified before rushing ahead.

The "Bucket-Slave" will be in the foreground of the final image, so it was especially important to me to decide how he would look. The "Plow-Team" will be somewhat in the distance. (I'm actually not completely satisfied with the plow team picture, but I feel like I need to keep moving.) The remaining two slaves will be far enough in the distance that I'm not sure further artwork will be required for them.

To save time for the competition I'm only building one human model, then adjusting the proportions and facial structure to create the rest of the crew. If I do it correctly, this should be unrecognizable in the final image.

I hope to have some modeling pictures soon. I'll be starting with the humans, then moving to the fearsome Chicksnsnakes afterward.

Not quite seeing the reason behind this sketch but there is a lot of time ahead, so keep it coming. :)

That sketch reminds me of old Finnish cartoons, which is a good thing. I love the idea of white collar workers doing some oldskool manual labour. To me your concept has some serious potential.
Keep it up.

Here is the first look at the slaves in 3D. As I mentioned before, I built a single head model and then pulled it around to make these three different gents.

The guy on the left will be adjusted to pull his nose out a bit... He looked cool in profile while I was working on him, but seeing him like this really showed me how smushed he looks. He is the guy who will be carrying the water buckets from my previous sketches. The larger guy in the middle will be pulling the plow, and the guy on the right will be driving it.

There will be at least two more slaves in the background, but I'm hoping I can get away with just sticking the two smaller guys back there.

I hoped to be much further along by now, but I've been very sick. I'm feeling better now, so I hope to get things moving.

Thanks for the kind words so far; hopefully I'll end up with something worth looking at. :)

Here's a look at the plow-pulling slave in progress. I'm aware of many issues with this model in its current state, but I feel like showing a bit of progress will help motivate me to actually finish this challenge. So here's a quick-and-dirty glimpse for the sake of progress, and don't fret over the blocky hands, lack of wrists, missing ankles, odd knees, or any of the other numerous things I'm going to change in the next few hours. ;)

Here is a look at the three main servants in my image. They are all adjusted versions of the same body model, as I'm quickly running out of time for this challenge. There are still a few tweaks and additions I'd like to make, but at this point I'm going to try to move onto another area of the scene.

(Also, please forgive my lack of knowledge regarding lighting setup for nice-looking model views.)

Next stop: Chicksensnakes!
